What we want

The Financial Accountant I, under direction, performs entry-level professional accounting. This position is responsible for fixed asset annual certification coordination, review, and update in FAMIS and USAS (SPA) as necessary, including adding, tracking, disposing, and accounting related activities of fixed assets. Perform tasks and provide expertise at a University level within the Division of Finance. Responsible for compliance with TAMUS/TAMU policies and procedures, safety standards and guidelines. What you need to know

Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or an equivalent combination of education and experience


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Excellent oral and written communication, customer service and problem solving skills
  • Ability to comprehend and apply rules and regulations
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
  • This is position visits departments across campus once or twice per month


Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Some accounting experience in a business office
  • Experience in Higher Education


Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet programs


Responsibilities:
  • Inventory Certification Review and Update - Coordinate the fixed asset annual certification for multiple agencies. Create and transfer electronic files to and from FAMIS and 3rd party software for fixed asset inventory. Serve as administrator for software, regularly working with IT professionals on file transfers, routine issues, and installations. Schedule, create, and send instructions and information. Prepare and train departments on software. Prepare and set up scanners. Monitor return of certifications. Track progress of completion for about 500 certifications. This includes examining, analyzing, and reviewing data. Process and perform manual corrections. Adjust control features for fixed assets and reconcile the reports. Maintain financial and non-financial internal controls in compliance with laws, policies, regulations, rules, procedures, and sponsor guidelines. Report any significant deficiencies, material weaknesses or fraud. Record and update accounting records. Score for risk assessment.
  • Label Print and Distribution - Print bar code labels. Locate and print control record. Match and mail.
  • Risk Assessment - Review and prepare data, including department personnel changes, number of missing assets reported, last audit date, if the last certification was late, the volume of assets involved, etc. Analyze data and apply weighted scores. Review and create audit lists.
  • Inventory Audit - Conduct departmental physical inventory audit to assure compliance with State, System, & University rules and regulations.
  • Other - Perform other duties as assigned.
