Our client who has grown into the number one manufacturer in Canada for their respective paper product and recognized as 1 of 3 leading producers in their field globally is currently seeking a new Controller as they move into the next stage of their evolution.
As a standalone Controller for this very well operated family owned manufacturer, you will be tasked with the full cycle accounting functions - day to day processing of transactions and updating accounting records, monitoring bank accounts, completing monthly reconciliations, managing financial reporting, accounts receivables and payroll functions.
We are looking for a diligent, hard working and independent Accounting professional who is ambitious and takes pride in the work they perform. This is a standalone position, but rest assured that you will interact daily with almost everyone in the company from the President and VP's, to Purchasing, to the Plant Manager and Procurement. YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Full cycle accounting functions - day to day processing of transactions and updating accounting records, monitoring bank accounts, completing monthly reconciliations, managing financial reporting, accounts receivables and payroll functions
• Working within the general ledger, including: reviewing income statements, financial results, analysis of revenue and expenses, and ensuring overall accuracy of the financial records
• Reconciling bank and investment accounts
• Performed daily routines and month end procedures, including journal entries, bank reconciliations, accruals, foreign exchange transactions, expense analysis
• Ensured plant month end accounting responsibilities were completed on time.
• Overall responsibility for all aspects of financial planning, reporting, analysis and control, including cash management and risk management, reporting directly to the President/Founder
• Identifying opportunities to enhance profitability and mitigate risk
• Assisting with the preparation of the detailed annual budget
• Produce and distribute daily, weekly, monthly cash flow statements
• Prepare and complete monthly and quarterly financial statements, including budget comparison, variance analysis and trend analysis
• Prepare year end working papers for external accountants
• Oversee year end inventory and costing
• Comply with government reporting requirements and tax filings
• Responsible for job costing, including analysis relative to estimates and targets
• Identify and communicate accounting process improvements
• Work within required budgets and deadlines
• Liase with other departments and production plant to generate internal reporting and analysis on financial and operational metrics
• Worked with President and Plant Manager to create financial modelling to examine company's projected short- and long-term growth based on key indicators, sales projections and cash flow analysis.
• Provide guidance to and oversight of the existing accounting function
KEY REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION:
• Accounting experience in a professional business setting (preferably in a small to mid-size business)
• Experience in a manufacturing environment (Preferable)
• Experience working with accounting software - technical knowledge and experience with MS Word/Excel
• Experience with financial planning, forecasting, developing budgets, dealing with complex issues
• Ability to take initiative
• Detail-oriented with practical problem solving skills
• Ability to see past the numbers, and understand the complex relationship between all aspects of the business
• Ability to prioritize workloads and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Highly values team work and professionalism
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills
• Excellent analytical and abstract reasoning skills, plus excellent organizational skills
