How will I help?

This is a key role in the Operational Risk team in Group Audit which assesses the effectiveness of enterprise level
risk management frameworks, oversight, and implementation; as well as topical areas such as risk culture and value chain risk management. The role is also intended to support our specialist Credit Risk team, particularly their coverage of retail credit portfolio risk management practices and controls.

This is a unique opportunity for an individual to leverage their auditing experience and capability to help the two teams succeed, while also gaining unique knowledge and insights from key risk specialists within internal audit at Westpac.

Key accountabilities:
• Lead, manage and where needed, execute audits. This includes:
- determining the scope for testing design and operating effectiveness of controls and planning the review approach
- managing an audit team to ensure effective application of the audit methodology
- overseeing the delivery of audits including framing and communication of issues, recommendations and reports
- collaborate with other Group Audit subject matter experts (e.g. project risk, data analytics, model risk, compliance) to ensure the broader audit program is delivered in a professional, coordinated and efficient manner.
• Develop insights for audit reporting and key messages reported to the Westpac Group Board Audit Committee on areas of weakness in credit and operational risk management processes.
• Monitor projects, issue management, emerging risks or concerns to develop a strong understanding of the portfolios and ensure our audit plan remains suitable.
• Develop and coach staff.

What's in it for you?

What do I need?

• 10+ years financial services industry and assurance experience, ideally with good knowledge of the end-to-end retail lending risk activities (e.g. credit, compliance and operational risks applicable to consumer lending products).
• Good commercial judgment, including the ability to evaluate the likely impact of control weaknesses and any emerging risks on lending
portfolio quality, operational risks, and regulatory compliance.
• Good leadership, organisational and time management skills as well as demonstrated ability to continuously adapt and learn
• Good stakeholder engagement skills including proven communication (written and verbal) skills and the ability to build relationships and
exert influence without direct authority
• Understanding of Australian regulatory obligations for credit and operational risk management (e.g. CPS 220, APS 115, APS 220 & 221, NCCP/responsible lending/Banking Code of Practice)
