The Role

Navy Finance has several APS5 Finance Analyst vacancies at Garden Island Defence precinct and Defence Plaza in Sydney, NSW. The positions available are embedded Finance Analyst roles supporting Navy Fleet Command Units and Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG) System Program Offices (SPOs) in the Maritime Domain.

As an APS5 Finance Analyst you will assist APS6 Finance Advisors by undertaking a range of financial analysis tasks and activities, including:
  • Providing financial management support, assisting with budget preparation and financial performance monitoring and reporting in accordance with Defence objectives.
  • Coordinating financial governance requirements and promoting compliance with financial management frameworks.
  • Understanding and providing advice on Defence and government financial management matters.
  • Applying financial management knowledge and undertaking objective and systematic analysis to draw accurate conclusions based on evidence.
  • Building and sustaining effective relationships with team members and actively participating in team work and group activities.
  • Interpreting and complying with legislative, policy and regulatory frameworks.
  • Assessing financial management issues and recommending solutions to achieve business outcomes.

About our Team

Navy Finance Branch, within the Financial Performance & Management Division (FP&M) provides financial advice and analysis to the Chief of Navy, the Commander of the Australian Fleet, their leadership team and leaders of the Maritime Domain within Capability and Sustainment Group.

The positions of Finance Analyst - Fleet and Maritime are based at the Garden Island Dockland Precinct in Woolloomooloo, and at Defence Plaza in the Sydney CBD. The positions provide embedded and remote financial services for Navy & Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group in support of the sustainment and operating budgets for:
  • Fleet Command;
  • Director General Major Surface Ships; and
  • Director General Maritime Support

FP&M Division delivers financial advice and performance reporting to Groups and Services, Ministers and other government departments, across all Defence programs and activities including workforce, capital, sustainment and operating budgets.

FP&M Division consists of over 400 staff working in six branches, each managing around $6 Billion per year, with embedded finance staff across the country working closely with business areas. Principally, the Division is responsible for delivering financial management information and advice to ensure Defence leaders can make well informed decisions. Think big numbers, many complex projects running in parallel, and close public scrutiny requiring carefully managed finances.
