Job Description
Microsoft's Operations Finance Revenue Recognition team is looking for a highly motivated, collaborative accounting professional to help maintain execution excellence and shape the future of Modern offerings.

The Operations Finance Revenue Recognition team is responsible for the accuracy for multi billion dollars of revenue across the world for both US GAAP and local statutory reporting. Responsibilities:
Core Job Responsibilities:
(1) Contract Reviews and Technical Consultations
  • Review contractual arrangements in accordance with US and local GAAP to identify language that may require non-standard accounting treatment.
  • Be a subject matter expert providing technical advice on revenue recognition in order to influence deal structures for compliant reporting.
  • Work with Corporate Accounting, the corporate licensing group, product business groups, sales teams and operations groups to understand and resolve issues identified in the contractual arrangement reviews.

(2) Education and Training
  • Increase the understanding of revenue recognition guidelines at Microsoft through participation in stakeholder education sessions, brown bags, summits, etc.
  • Key contributor to the evaluation of revenue recognition issues including writing accounting positions
  • Assist in implementation of new corporate revenue policies.

(3) Other Projects:
  • Contribute to implementation of Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence within various RevRec tasks.
  • Subject matter expert to represent Ops Finance in support of global or regional projects.
  • SOX: Work closely with the Revenue Cycle process owner for all revenue recognition activities in SOX scope and implement initiatives to enhance controls.
Requirements/ Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of related accounting or finance work experience
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP accounting
  • Experience in software, technology industry a plus
  • Experience in revenue recognition (ASC 606/IFRS 15) a plus
  • BS/BA or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or relevant field
  • CPA or equivalent preferred
  • Learner's mindset with the desire to learn and grow professionally
  • Critical thinking, comfortable dealing with complexity and ambiguity with tenacity to find answers and reach conclusions
  • Strong planning and organizational skills with ability to work under tight deadlines
  • Ability to effectively interact across a broad spectrum of audiences
  • Ability to understand complex systems, processes and programs
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team player
  • Strong Microsoft Office application skills, especially Excel
