Job Description:

Role Summary:

The Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) team in SLF Canada leads the Canadian business planning process to achieve financial and business objectives. Reporting to the AVP FP&A, the Director, FP&A plays a central role in this process, partnering with the Corporate and Canadian strategic areas to help bridge strategic priorities and financial objectives and coordinating across all business units and functional areas to successfully deliver the overall plan. In addition, this role will lead the transformation of our planning process to adopt a dynamic approach, delivering new insights on business drivers and opportunities across the value chain.

Main Accountabilities:
  • Responsible for leading and supporting assigned components of the business plan and strategic plan in partnership withvarious Canadian Finance teams as well as business and support units across SLF Canada.
  • Leads and contributes to the development of the SLF Canada business plan financials, consolidating information while ensuring continuity across business and support units, reconciling information to simplify complexity and preparing and delivering presentations on plan financials.
  • Lead the development and implementation of a dynamic planning process within SLF Canada to support Senior Management in evaluating tactical opportunities and decisions. Includes end to end responsibility for the design, development and implementation of the dynamic plan framework, including:
    • Assessing needs and gaining stakeholder buy-in;
    • Identifying and modelling business drivers, in collaboration with business and support units;
    • Conducting pilots and executing the launch of the new framework;
    • Evaluating third-party tools to streamline and add value to the process; and
    • Ensuring a strong strategic lens to provide insights and support decisions across the value chain
  • Collaborates effectively with business partners by providing guidance, direction and support to the planning tools, processes and reports for Senior Management
  • Provides leadership and support to the planning team contributing to the high performance culture in Canadian Finance
  • Identifies, defines, develops and maintains the planning software tool structure and reporting to meet business planning requirements defined by Corporate and the Canadian CFO
  • Utilizes organizational know how to continually focus on the development and improvement of complex business processes
  • Support quarterly and monthly reporting by providing updates on plan related information for KPI type presentations, the quarterly CFO Memo and others as needed
  • Performs ad-hoc analysis and provide recommendations to senior management to influence decisions.


Competencies:
  • Proven financial acumen through professional designation (CA, CPA, CFA, FCIA) or related work experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal and teamworkskills
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with senior management
  • Ability to influence business partners including other Canadian Finance teams, the Business Units, Support Units and Corporate
  • Attention to accuracy and detail
  • Strong technical, analytical and problem solving skills with ability to key messages and trends
  • Ability to leverage technology to streamline processes and provide analytical support
  • Flexible to changing priorities and timelines
  • Self-motivated and results-oriented


Assets:
  • Experience working in strategy and/or management consulting applying value chains, profit pools, and other strategic frameworks to drive business value
  • Experience working in the insurance industry or a large financial institution
  • Experience in business planning or financial reporting


The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
