Project Accountant

Our client is a successful construction company that emphasizes strong teams and brings a good corporate culture.Due to a continuing focus on improving the impact of financial information on strong operational performance, they are looking to add an experienced individual to their team.This individual will work in conjunction with operations and service managers as well as other areas of finance to develop meaningful and accurate financial management information.

The role will primarily ensure accurate project job costing and revenue tracking including analysis of budgets and forecasts to actual results and the requisite cost variance analysis to understand the performance of the business.

The Role:

• Identify areas of improvement in periodic reporting processes and offer solutions to create efficiencies.
• Report on detailed costs within projects by reviewing job costs to ensure that all costs are inputted by cut-off dates and prepare accurate journal entries. Generate project accounting reports, project cost reports, reviews, and analysis.
• Communicate with operational managers regarding project costs, change orders, and any additional services related to billing and payables.
• Assist and respond to inquiries from management, project managers, and other stakeholders - providing quality service.
• Contribute towards the development and adherence to internal controls processes that affect the finance function.
• Document and implement project costing processes.
• Identify project inconsistencies and resolve issues with project managers.
• Assist project managers through the financial lifecycle of each project.
• Provide support during month-end close as required by working closely with project management team, procurement, payroll, accounts receivable and accounts payable to ensure accurate and consistent financial reporting, cost capture, revenue recognition, and project billing.
• Performing cost variance analysis and project margin analysis, Assisting with project invoicing, revenue, and cost allocations/recognition.
• Identify gaps, and opportunities for improvement and development of administrative activities to ensure effective, cost-efficient, and value-added delivery of services

The Ideal Candidate:

• Chartered Professional Accounting designation (CPA)
• Possession of 5+ years post-designation accounting experience, preferably project accounting and financial analysis in an industrial setting
• Experience in documenting & implementing processes
• Advanced Excel knowledge and expertise (pivot tables, V-lookups, advanced formulae, etc.)
• A strong ability to build meaningful relationships and superior communication skills and emotional intelligence to help drive change.
