The Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications (the Department) is responsible for the design and implementation of the Australian Government's infrastructure, transport and regional development policies and programs, and is the lead agency for communications and the arts. The People, Governance, Parliamentary and Communication Division is responsible for the provision of high quality business services, systems, support and advice to the department and ministerial offices. The division is responsible for providing ministerial and parliamentary services, human resource management services, risk management oversight, governance and other corporate services.
The opportunity we have available
We are seeking talented and enthusiastic professionals to fill multiple Assistant Director Executive Level 1 (EL1) roles in the Evaluation, Audit and Risk Section.
The Evaluation, Audit and Risk Section is a small professional team with responsibility for audit, risk management, fraud control, and Comcover insurance. Working in the Evaluation, Audit and Risk Section provides a unique opportunity to gain an overall view of the department's policy, program and regulatory activities.
The Section also provides secretariat services for the Department's Audit and Risk Committee. The role of the committee is to provide advice to the Secretary on the appropriateness of the department's financial and performance reporting, system of risk oversight and management, and system of internal control.
This recruitment process may be used to establish a merit pool to fill future EL1 vacancies, both ongoing and non-ongoing.

Employment with the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications is subject to conditions prescribed within the Public Service Act 1999 including:
Citizenship: To be eligible for employment with the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications, applicants must be an Australian citizen. Only in exceptional circumstances will the department consider waiving this requirement.
Health Assessment: The preferred applicant may be required to undergo a medical examination conducted by the department's preferred medical provider.
Security Clearance: The successful candidate must be able to obtain and/or maintain a security clearance at the Baseline Level. You must be willing to disclose all relevant and required information. You must have lived in Australia, or have a checkable background, for at least the preceding five years for Baseline Vetting clearances. What will you do?
The specific responsibilities of each position will be influenced by the successful candidate's skills and experience. The responsibilities of the positions may include but are not limited to:
- Contributing to regular review of the department's Risk Management Policy and Framework, the development of a risk culture and awareness strategy and face to face risk management training.
- Promoting consistent and effective risk management practices and building organisational capability through the provision of advice, facilitation of risk workshops, and the development of risk management tools and guidance.
- Assisting with the development and implementation of the Internal Audit Work Program, which outlines the approved program of internal audits, including liaison with internal and external stakeholders.
- Providing secretariat services for the department's Audit and Risk Committee, including coordinating appointments, scheduling meetings, coordinating, collating and distributing meeting papers, and drafting agenda papers and minutes.
- Contributing to the review and development of the department's fraud control plan and fraud risk assessment, including fraud risk workshops with divisions.
- Providing advice on roles and responsibilities for preventing, detecting and responding to fraud.
- Providing advice on Comcover insurance issues, including claims management and reporting, and acting as the principal point of contact for the department. This also involves undertaking a review of the department's insurable risks and insurance requirements.
- Preparing executive briefings and papers on relevant topics for governance committees.
- Supervising staff at the APS 6 level.
