What you will do

Australia Compliance forms part of Global Compliance and Corporate Risk function and is entrusted with providing regulatory advice and assurance to senior management, boards, relevant committees, regulators and clients and ensuring Northern Trust meets its regulatory obligations at all times.

As part of the Australian and Asia Pacific compliance team, this role is in the second line of defence and will assist in the implementation of the Northern Trust Compliance model. The Compliance function is responsible for ongoing oversight and reporting regarding regulatory obligations to senior compliance and business management.

This role supports the Australian businesses in relation to all aspects of the compliance programme including understanding and interpreting regulatory requirements, and regulatory engagements. This role requires monitoring, testing, assurance, policy drafting, training and other duties as assigned.

DUTIES:

  1. Provides input and advice to business and management partners regarding regulatory requirements and market best practice
  2. Evaluates regulatory changes and assists with implementation where required
  3. Advises on Compliance programs and applicable laws, regulations, rules and standards, including keeping them informed of developments or changes that may affect their area. Prefer knowledge of Custody, Asset Servicing, FX, Brokerage, Transition Management, Treasury, Securities Lending, Payments and Fund Administration businesses as well as corporate governance such as outsourcing, data privacy, information security and accountability regimes.
  4. Implements and embeds the global and regional Compliance Program, including rules mapping, risk assessment, monitoring and assurance frameworks and executing against action plans
  5. Evaluates regulatory requirements and expectations against existing processes and controls to identify potential gaps, recommending procedural changes if necessary
  6. Works in partnership with the wider Compliance, Risk and Controls teams
  7. Drafts policies and procedures for Australian businesses, including for internal Compliance use
  8. Develops and conducts training as required
  9. Produce and analyze Compliance reports and data for internal committees and boards
  10. Identifies, documents and escalates potential regulatory risks
  11. Works on projects and increases understanding of project management

Your Knowledge/Skills

  • Fluent in English and ability to communicate in a clear, concise and effective manner (verbal and written)
  • Understanding of APRA and ASIC regulations and relevant Australian law
  • Experience of providing compliance advisory and operational support
  • Experience in regulatory exams and audit management would be beneficial
  • Strong organisational skills, a collaborative approach to work, with strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to use initiative and work unsupervised in a proactive manner
  • 10+ years of related experience
