Role/ Department:

This is a varied role supporting the UK Senior Management Function (SMF 24) for Global Services (GS) and the oversight activity required to evidence ongoing completion of Reasonable Steps for activities that they are accountable for, to two Northern Trust UK legal entities; The Northern Trust Company, London Branch and Northern Trust Global Services SE UK Branch.

The incumbent will work in partnership with the UK Conduct office and the senior manager to ensure the SMF 24 compliance framework and operating model is robust. This will require the incumbent to accept delegation of certain activities from the SMF 24 to include the oversight of certain key initiatives and projects, collation and review of operational performance.

This is a Certified Person role for The Northern Trust Company, London Branch.

Additionally, working in conjunction with the SMF 24 in their capacity as Global Head of Securities Operations and EMEA Head of Global Services, the role delivers critical business support to include:

  • Ensuring a robust risk and control governance framework is maintained across all Securities Operations practice areas;
  • Challenging and supporting practice areas deliver their annual budget targets and performance commitments;
  • Support execution oversight of strategic deliverables to include regulatory project delivery, location strategy, optimising cost per trade, employee engagement, diversity & inclusion strategies and working across the wider Global Services team to support business priorities.
  • This role will report to the Global Head of Securities Operations, who is the SMF 24 for Global Services Custody, Payments, Settlements & Clearing and the Head of EMEA Global Services.

    The key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Working with the SMF, ensure a robust governance framework is in place to meet the SMF’s regulatory obligations;
  • Support the SMF in setting the priorities and focus areas for the Critical Economic Functions (CEF’s) of Custody, Payments, Clearing & Settlements (herein after referred to as ‘CEF’s’);
  • Where required, to act as the delegate of the SMF 24;
  • Assist in identifying areas for in-depth review and potential challenge;
  • In partnership with Global Services Control group, agree the prioritisation of 1st line control testing across CEF’s;
  • In partnership with Global Securities Control group, maintain oversight of 2nd and 3rd line reviews/audits and findings across the CEF’s to include monitoring on timely closure of agreed actions;
  • Maintaining oversight of strategic projects and the change agenda impacting the CEF’s;
  • Maintain oversight of the regulatory change agenda, commitments, milestone and operational readiness across the CEF’s;
  • Build out key risk and performance MI (Management Information) for the CEF’s, establish and maintain the framework for the review, analysis and interpretation of the data;
  • Support the SMF 24 continue to build out Global Services Operational Resilience programme and annual deliverables;
  • On behalf of the SMF 24 and additionally in his role as EMEA Head of Global Services, coordinate compilation and submission of management information to Boards, Committees and Regulators
