We have a great opportunity for an audit professional with a financial background and experience of working within General Insurance (GI) to join our team as an Internal Audit Manager, in either our London, Norwich or Bristol office.

The Audit team's purpose is to help the Board and Executive Management protect the assets, reputation and sustainability of Aviva. They join the dots between risk and control and the execution of strategy to serve our customers. In order to do that, the team delivers a plan of audit work which assesses and reports on the efficiency of the control environment to manage the key risks to Aviva. This plan covers all risk types including technical finance and insurance risks, for which a solid grasp of key finance processes is required.

If you're seeking a new challenge and you have a background in Finance with auditing experience and a knowledge of GI, this role would be ideal for you. Your input and experience will be truly valued in the team, for the reason that we need individuals like you to support the development and lead the delivery of the audit plan through a deep and broad understating of the risks facing the business. You will be involved with process, controls, engage with stakeholders to investigate what is working in practice and the necessary test that are required, along with sharing your recommendations.

Responsibilities in the role:
  • Manage a portfolio of audit reviews and leading reviews where appropriate, ensuring overall delivery is to the required standard
  • Deliver and manage the timely production of high-quality concise findings, audit issues and audit reports
  • Undertake timely and robust issue tracking to ensure issues raised are appropriately remediated
  • Partner and relationship management at a management level within the business
  • Ensure quality control in the portfolio of reviews in line with the audit methodology
  • Contribute to the production of reports to internal audits key partners (e.g. Audit Committees, Risk Committees, and Board Committees etc) and through these influencing management actions to deliver a more effective controls framework
  • Identify areas for improvement in the operation of the audit team

Skills and experience we're looking for:
  • Professional accounting or audit qualification or equivalent business experience required
  • Relevant expertise in financial, general insurance or market risk - ideally within an audit or consulting firm in the financial services department OR in an insurance/asset management company
  • Regulation and risk identification experience
  • Experience in leading complex projects/reviews, leading small-medium teams and negotiation situations
  • Experience in managing the senior level relationships and influencing their behaviour

In addition to relevant audit skills and general insurance experience, you will be a great collaborator and teammate, with a positive, proactive approach and able to work in a team of mixed skills and backgrounds. It is vital that you are able to look at the big picture, understand the impact of your findings on the wider business and be able to communicate issues and impacts clearly to audiences at all levels in the business. You must also be able to effectively project manage your workload with minimal direct supervision and contribute to a positive and encouraging environment.

What will you get for this role?
  • Competitive salary depending on skills, experience and qualifications
  • Generous defined contribution pension scheme
  • Annual performance related bonus and pay review
  • Holiday allowance of 29 days plus bank holidays and the option to buy/sell up to 5 additional days
  • Up to 40% discount for some Aviva products through "My Aviva Extras" plus discounts for Friends and Family (some exclusions apply)
  • Excellent range of flexible benefits to include a matching share save scheme

Working at Aviva

At Aviva, we're people with a purpose. To be with you today, for a better tomorrow.

We bring this to life by ensuring managing risk is at the heart of the way we all work. We love people who do the right thing for our customers and our colleagues. We want people who speak up, who take responsibility, and who make good decisions.

The way we do this is important too. We always 'Care More'. It's our thing. We're all about our people - that's you - so we can be pretty flexible. If you want to work from home some of the time or change your hours so you can pick up your kids or care for someone in your family, we're very open to that. In fact, we don't advertise roles as either part or full time, because we know each person has different needs, just as each business area has different needs. So, it's up to you to discuss working hours during your interview.

We care deeply about being inclusive and that means we encourage applications from people with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We want our employees to bring their whole self to work and that starts with you.

We interview every disabled applicant* that meets the minimum criteria for the job. Just send us an email once you've applied stating that you have a disclosed disability, we'll make sure we interview you.

We'd love it if you could submit your application online. If you require an alternative method of applying, please give Lacey Lane Mckoy a call on 0207 255 0884 or send an email to lacey.lane-mckoy@aviva.com

*As defined in The Equality Act 2010*. By 'minimum criteria' we mean you should provide us with evidence which demonstrates that you generally meet the level of competence required and have the qualifications, skills or experience defined as essential to perform the role.
