Finance Department

The Finance and Treasury Team is led by the Director of Finance and Treasury and is split in to three sections

  • financial control
  • treasury
  • business planning

The Financial Controller is a well established role covering the first of these, with responsibility for day-to-day finance operations and financial reporting, currently assisted by three direct reports; the Financial Reporting Manager, the Management Accountant and the Finance Operations Supervisor.

Role Overview: The Financial Controller leads the financial control team, and reports to the Director of Finance and Treasury (DFT). The role involves overseeing day-to-day financial operations, ensuring the delivery of a quality service to internal and external customers.  The financial controller drives the development of, and adherence to, corporate policies and internal controls to optimise financial control and minimise exposure to risk.

Areas of Responsibility

Compliance

  • Working with the DFT to manage Clúid’s financial affairs
  • Managing regulatory compliance activity
  • Managing the completion of tax and other statutory returns
  • Overseeing the operation, regular review and development of financial accounting policies, procedures and systems
  • Ensuring that financial reporting and practice complies with financial standards & statutory requirements
  • Maintaining appropriate safeguards to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of financial reports
  • Managing the operation of internal audit (currently contracted out) including preparation of supporting documentation and responses to information requests

Reporting

  • Leading the compilation of annual financial statements including preparation of supporting documentation and information required by statutory auditors
  • Collaborating with budget holders to assist with budget compilation and the subsequent monitoring of performance against approved budgets
  • Liaising with the Operations Team to plan and make appropriate budget provision for the annual maintenance programme
  • Managing internal financial reporting cycles and output to meet agreed requirements and targets
  • Overseeing owner management companies accounting and reporting
  • Evaluating new business initiatives, including risk assessment and the development of financial models to inform management decision-making
  • Managing improvement and efficiency projects within the finance team

Business Partnering  

  • Working with the Finance Business Partner to support managers in achieving effective budgetary control and performance management
  • Providing financial advice to management as required to support decision making
  • Working with the IT Department and external providers in the development of existing finance systems and/or the specification, acquisition and implementation of new, finance related systems and accounting software

Value for Money

  • Maintaining a constant focus on corporate cost efficiency and supporting senior management in the identification and pursuit of opportunities to improve value for money

People Management

  • Recruitment & Induction: Collaborate with HR to ensure the best candidate/s are recruited, to develop a thorough induction plan and actively manage the probation process
  • Engagement: Contributing to a positive work culture within finance and throughout the business
  • Managing & Supporting Performance: Providing direct reports with support and guidance to enhance their performance
  • Learning & Development: Creating annual individual and departmental learning and development plans
  • Safety & Wellbeing: Ensuring that direct reports work in a safe environment and actively partake in any company wide or team wellbeing activities
  • Promoting a culture of continuous improvement, customer care and Value for Money

Other

  • Assisting the DFT with additional projects as required
  • Representing Clúid externally as required
  • Networking and fostering key internal/external business relationships
  • Any other duties consistent with the role

Person Specification

Education / Qualifications

  • Degree in related discipline
  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA)

Knowledge / Skills

  • Ability to plan and organise at organisation and personal level
  • Openness to adapt to new IT systems
  • Strong communication skills, verbal, written, report writing, presentation

Experience

  • A minimum of 5+ years in a similar role
  • Experience of working in a property orientated environment or similar SME - desirable
  • Experience of working in a team environment
  • Experience of performance management data analysis reporting
  • Experience of working with senior management
  • Experience of Value for Money reporting - desirable
