Please review the following job description:
Contribute to team responsible for the preparation, review, analysis and distribution of financial reports filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), for a large complex financial institution. Participate in quarterly financial review meetings with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), CFO and Corporate Controller. Manage all aspects of the Corporation's eXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) process, which consists of a comprehensive identification, designation and labeling of every numerical value in the US generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) financial statements (3,000+ unique values). Assess the impact of new accounting disclosure requirements and lead the development of related implementation strategies. Improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the SEC reporting process while maintaining strong internal controls and minimizing risk. Work closely with the Associate General Counsel and Director of Investor Relations on the content of external communications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Following is a summary of the essential functions for this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.
1. Aggregate data from various LOBs and perform analysis of:
a. Quarterly Earnings Release and related schedules to be furnished to the SEC, published globally by a primary news service, and used directly by Executive Management during the quarterly earnings conference calls with analysts;
b. Annual Forms 10-K and 11-K and Quarterly Form 10-Qs to be filed with the SEC;
c. XBRL electronic tagging instance documents to be filed with the Annual Form 10-K and Quarterly Form 10-Qs;
d. Financial information included in SEC filings for the registration of stock in connection with mergers and acquisitions;
e. Current reports on Form 8-K for prescribed events within mandated filing deadlines after each occurrence;
f. Financial information included in shelf registration statements and prospectus supplements related to corporate and bank debt issuances;
g. Financial information included in shelf registration statements related to common and preferred stock issuances;
h. Summarization of updates to the Forms 10-K and 10-Q for the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors.
Assist with the company-wide risk management function by reviewing stress test results, proxy statements, resolution plans and other documents, as requested by senior management.
2. Manage the risk of misstatement/improper disclosure in applicable financial reports. Ensure proper documentation and functioning of the internal controls over financial reporting to comply with section 404 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 (SOX). Ensure that information, including XBRL elements, in SEC filings is accurate and in compliance with SEC reporting requirements and deadlines.
3. Assist with the presentation on the Form 10-K/10-Q for members of Risk Management and other members of senior management
4. Assist with the coordination of communications of the 8-K Review Council to ensure members are aware of and approve filings. Monitor SEC regulations and interpretations related to the financial services industry as well as peer group filings to ensure BB&T's filings are in compliance and meeting the needs of investors
5. Identify and implement new accounting disclosure requirements issued by the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and SEC. Processes must have strong internal controls.
6. Provide a quality control review for accuracy of presentations prepared by Investor Relations, and assist the Corporate Communications department related to questions from the media regarding financial disclosures.
7. Assist external and internal auditors, attorneys and others in the preparation of publicly distributed financial information. Work closely with external and internal auditors to facilitate an effective and efficient audit and review of SEC filings.
8. Assist in the preparation of comment letters to the FASB related to new accounting and reporting requirements and of response letters to the SEC related to inquiries concerning accounting and reporting practices.
9. Ensure business units understand SEC reporting requirements and designing processes and system reports.
Required Skills and Competencies:

2. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation
3. Five or more years of relevant financial reporting experience, including preparing and reviewing financial reports

5. Excellent knowledge of SEC reporting requirements and experience preparing and/or reviewing SEC reports; strong understanding of GAAP, including most complex accounting rules relating to financial institutions

Desired Skills:
1. Master's degree in Business or Accountancy
2. Five or more years of experience in the accounting industry
3. Banking industry experience preferred
4. Proficient in Hyperion, Wdesk, and financial reporting software programs
5. Experience at a public accounting firm, preferably a Big Four audit firm
