Responsibilities

The Accountant will have the following responsibilities.
  • Analyzes internal controls during the course audits or risk assessment analyses to identify adequacy of controls
  • Analyzes severity of discrepancies in order to make recommendation's under general supervision
  • Analyzes work papers to determine number and significance of discrepancies from established compliance standards.
  • Conducts research on federal, state, and department policies, procedures, rules and regulations
  • Gathers information from external and internal auditees to gain an understanding of their operations.
  • Prepares draft audit narrative reports from work paper summaries and general supervision to document audit results, clearly communicate results and make recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Prepares work papers and supporting documentation from a review of records and other auditing resources identify legal, financial, compliance and or administrative problems or discrepancies under general supervision.
  • Indexes work papers for future reference and information tracking purposes under general supervision based on departmental standards.
  • Determines methodology and attributes to be tested on assigned audit program
  • Identifies sample populations to be audited based on assigned audit program
  • Documents work performed in the course of the audit according to departmental standards policies and procedures for review by assigned supervisor
  • Documents communications with auditees related to be the audit
  • Documents completion of each step of the assigned audit program
  • Communicates with co-workers and assigned subordinates to assist with problem solving and resolution
  • Responds to inquiries for information from upper management personnel.
  • Acts as a subject mater expert for assigned supervisors, management and internal and external business partners to provide advice.
  • Advises assigned subordinates and co-workers in proper steps for resolving identified problems and issues.
  • Communicates with internal customers in a friendly and courteous manner to promote healthy relationships and exceptional customer service
  • Establishes meaningful working relationships with co-workers to ensure effective goal achievement
  • Conducts themselves in a professional manner during the course of assigned duties.
  • Conducting compliance audits of State departments, agencies, institutions or schools or private agencies receiving state or federal funds to determine Statutory compliance
  • Examines organizational structure, managerial practices, polices and procedures and record keeping procedures to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Examines documentation including but not limited to, financial statements, bank statements, balance sheets, purchase invoices and payroll records to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations


Qualifications

The Accountant should have the following qualifications.
  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting required
  • 3 years auditing work
  • Experience with Federal Grants and knowledgeable in Uniform Guidance aka 2 CFR 200


Physical Requirements:
  • Job frequently requires sitting, handling objects with hands.
