About Standard Chartered

We are a leading international bank focused on helping people and companies prosper across Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

To us, good performance is about much more than turning a profit. It's about showing how you embody our valued behaviours - do the right thing, better together and never settle - as well as our brand promise, Here for good.

We're committed to promoting equality in the workplace and creating an inclusive and flexible culture - one where everyone can realise their full potential and make a positive contribution to our organisation. This in turn helps us to provide better support to our broad client base.

We're looking for a talented and driven individual to support the Group's Treasurer, take the lead on a number of key strategic pieces of work and to help make Treasury a high performing business unit / function. This is a stretching band 4 role that will give the jobholder a combination of managerial, strategic and technical experience. They will gain direct visibility on and have some responsibility for how a large unit/function is managed. The role reports directly into the Group's Treasurer and is a member of Treasury Management Team.

Whilst the preferred location for the role is Singapore, we would consider applicants based in other locations.

The Role Responsibilities

  • Drive and manage the agenda for the Treasury Management Team and for the Treasury function. This includes: 1) Proactively planning the agenda to cover tactical / short-term topics as well as longer-term strategic aspects; and 2) Collecting relevant meeting materials, preparing meeting minutes and tracking follow-up actions.
  • Support the Treasurer in the development and execution of various projects, initiatives and strategies. This is expected to involve an accountable executive role in projects of major significance for the Group, for example corporate entity restructuring, digital initiatives and regulatory engagement.
  • Oversight of the Group's key balance sheet committees (GALCO and OBSC). Ensure there is consistency and clarity across key Treasury material being shared with different forums / stakeholders (e.g. Group MT, PLC Board, investors).
  • Responsible for preparing or reviewing key MT and PLC Board submissions from Treasury. You will be expected to ensure highly technical documents are written in a way that has impact on an audience that may not have deep subject matter expertise.
  • Lead and define the culture of the global Treasury function, adding to its reputation as a top destination to work and for developing leading talent.
  • Prepare the Treasurer for key meetings and presentations, for example Group MT, PLC Board and investor meetings. This involves independently pre-empting questions, challenges and considering the key messages to be conveyed.
  • Review, input to and participate in meetings with key external stakeholders such as regulators, ratings agencies and debt investors.
  • Play your role as a member of TMT - take active part in the discussions, come up with ideas and challenge other TMT members around the table.
  • Have a finger on the pulse of the Treasury area - how are people feeling, what do they find challenging, what are they excited about?

Our Ideal Candidate
  • Has strong understanding of how the Bank works, its strategy and broader industry trends/context.
  • Strong project management, analytics, problem-solving, interpersonal and multi-tasking skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both spoken and written. Written English of a level suitable for PLC Board level material.
  • The ability to understand complex, technical concepts and scenarios and to explain them in a clear way for a non-technical audience
  • Able to think creatively and to connect the dots across the organisation and within treasury.
  • Energetic and resilient. Able to deal with set-backs and continue to drive towards constructive outcomes.
  • Willing to challenge senior figures in the organisation and to manage / steer difficult group conversations, whilst clearing acting in the best interest of the overall bank.
  • Personal integrity and able to maintain absolute confidentiality on highly sensitive matters.
