The Director, Credit Administration has responsibility for day-to-day non-client facing operational activities of the National Banking Group Credit Team within BMO Private Bank, and acts as a liaison with the remainder of BMO Private Bank for information pertaining to the line of business. The incumbent oversees and provides management of business operations including those related to systems and technology, governance and compliance; portfolio, financial, and client management analysis and reporting; human resources and training; implementation of business strategy. Has oversight for development of internal strategic presentations, provides issue resolution and acts as a consultant to the business on strategic and operational issues. The Director, Credit Administration also implements group-wide undertakings, establishes and develops strong relationships at all levels across the organization to ensure the incumbents effectiveness in executing against the mandate.

Qualifications:

Business Delivery and Operational Effectiveness
  • Responsible for day-to-day, non client-facing business operations of the National Banking Group Credit Team within BMO Private Bank.
  • Advises the Head of Private Bank Credit Risk and Strategy of critical internal and/or external issues that must be addressed and provides recommendations after having performed/ensured appropriate due diligence.
  • Guides and defines reporting, analysis, metrics and other management information related to the custom and standard loan portfolios and overall lending business. Oversees the preparation of financial, client and business analysis as necessary for business operations.
  • Oversees/provides the perspective and requirements of the business for (1) Risk Management and other lending-related systems projects and operations, and (2) various credit-related policies, guidelines, methodologies, authorities, limits, etc.
  • Manages the delivery of service by the loan operations back office.
  • Engages/guides HR partners for the training and development activities required for BMO Private Bank in concert with Head of Private Bank Credit Risk and Strategy.
  • Acts as a resource and advisor to the Head of Private Bank Credit Risk and Strategy on organizational, staffing, recruiting, and performance issues.
  • Ensures/provides the direction for multiple governance and compliance-related activities including CCAR, Heightened Standards, Regulator requests, etc., and participates in design of appropriate action plans for out-of-compliance occurrences.
  • Acts as first point of contact for all strategic, planning, financial, and operational issues for the National Banking Group Credit Team within BMO Private Bank. Provides/ensures resolution to such issues as authorized.
  • Disseminates information to senior management and ensures effective senior management messaging.
  • Prepares/guides the preparation of high-level group communication in the form of presentations, reports, newsletters, and speeches.
  • Identifies issues, gaps, and process improvements; addresses as authorized and escalates as necessary.
  • Defines content for agendas for team meetings and documentation / presentations for such meetings to achieve business goals.
  • Drives implementation of strategic initiatives and manages the associated change.
  • Responds to regulatory requests for data.
  • Provides support and input to business initiatives teams with respect to the teams mandate to provide consistent and integrated business, and strategic analyses for BMO Private Bank.

Client and Relationship Management
  • Establishes effective relationships, ensures collective objectives are met and business performance is optimized.
  • Delivers internal client service by troubleshooting and providing issue resolution in a professional, ethical, and conscientious manner.

Risk Management and Control
  • Interacts extensively with Audit and Risk Management to ensure compliance, regulatory and other internal controls applicable to the group are complied with.

Experience and Knowledge:

This position requires Credit Qualification. The incumbent must possess an In-Depth level of Credit knowledge and skills and an In-Depth level of Portfolio Management knowledge and skills according to the standards established within the Credit Qualification and Discretionary Limits Matrices.

Bachelors degree in Finance or business-related field.

Requires 10+ years of relevant experience in the financial services industry with progressive experience for Director and Managing Director level of accountabilities.

Minimum of 2 years of experience at a Vice President level or above preferred.

Excellent knowledge of the organizational offerings.

Expert knowledge in one or more areas as recognized by clients and peers.

Skills:

Exceptional analytical skills.

Proven ability to conceptualize and drive delivery of business initiatives.

Highly developed written and oral communication skills with proven abilities in financial documentation and presentations.

Expertise in computer applications and database management tools including, but not limited to, MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and TIBCO Spotfire.

Strong interpersonal skills used within a demanding team environment and in client interaction.

Exceptional ability to independently manage multiple priorities and to proactively service multiple clients in a fast-paced environment.

Ability to work a demanding schedule under limited supervision.

Excellent attention to detail and ability to learn and adapt quickly.

Ability to review, assess, and provide detailed information daily.
