The organisation:
The Bike Project is a community of refugees, cyclists, mechanics and volunteers. The mission is simple: take second-hand bikes, fix them up in the workshop and give them to refugees. The Bike Project is going through a significant period of growth, with a turnover of £1.5 million in 2020. They are expanding the delivery of bike donations and bike related programmes in support of refugees whilst developing the retail arm, The Bike Shop. This is a new and unique organisation with a small team onboard, many of whom wear many hats and all are passionate about the increased freedom a bike can offer.
The role:
The Head of Finance will be the CEO's right-hand person, in a role that requires both a strategic and hands on approach. The Head of Finance will manage everything from preparation of management accounts and presentation of these to Trustees, to financial accounting including delivery of statutory accounts and the audit. You will be supported by one Finance Officer who processes the transactions. The Head of Finance will set up many of the Bike Projects policies and procedures and set financial targets and budgets, including budgets for grant applications. This will be a central role within the organisation and a key driver towards their ambitious goals.
The person:
The Bike Project is an evolving success story thanks to their team of motivated staff. The Head of Finance will be a key part of that team moving forward. They are seeking a qualified Accountant who has previous experience within the charity sector, with the ability to set up new systems and processes, make proactive suggestions to reduce expenditure, increase revenue and work with the development team to make applications. The experience to develop the trading arm of the charity will also be useful, as well as experience of supporting new budget holders to manage their budgets.
We particularly encourage applications from women, disabled, and Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) candidates, and those who have personal experience of being a refugee.
Benefits:
This is an opportunity to have a genuine impact. This organisation has a flexible work culture in which work life balance is valued. They offer a time off in lieu policy and 28 days holiday.
