Our client is an SME leading importer and exporter based in South West London, eager to hire an experienced Management Accountant to join their team. As this is a small and very well established team, this role is best suited to a candidate who is keen to secure a stable job that they can be in long term, as there is not room for further progression.
To be successful in this role you will have experience working in a SME environment have supervisory experience and great commercial acumen. Extensive experience of preparation of management accounts and Excel skills including pivot tables, lookups, sum ifs etc. are essential.
This role involves supervision of the accounts team and overseeing purchase ledger, sales ledger, credit control and general ledger. Working closely with Directors, you will be advising on any director decisions and proposals and advising on external matters such as the import/export implications relating to Brexit.
Main responsibilities
Preparation of management accounts, using Excel, including:
Maintaining balance sheet schedules and following up as required, including:
Identifying variances to plan of staff payroll
Preparation and presentation of cash flow forecasts
Checking/authorising expense claims
Preparation of annual budget, including discussing and agreeing proposals with the Directors.
Maintaining statutory registers and filings as required with Companies House
Checking tax calculations (prepared by external advisors) for fact and questioning as required
Calculation of staff bonuses, and development of bonus schemes.
Generating monthly and quarterly sales analysis reports for Directors
Assisting Finance Manager on VAT and any other enquiries from statutory bodies
Completing Government Statistics Office returns
Attending and contributing to, as requested, senior management meetings operations meetings and, if required making presentations at Board meetings.
Liaise with auditors, bankers etc. as required. Manage audit by liaising with auditors and providing them with documents, schedules etc.

- Making accruals
- Investigating unexpected stock variances in Cost of Sales
- Investigating and explaining unexpected expenditure and variances to budget
- Executive commentary on financial results
Maintaining balance sheet schedules and following up as required, including:
- Fixed asset register
- Staff loans and advances
- Sundry creditors
- Sundry debtors
- Pensions creditor
- Directors current accounts
- Reviewing adequacy of provisions
- Act as back up to Assistant Finance Manager VAT returns and payroll preparation
