As a Finance Manager (Business Controller),youwill;

Be responsible for providing financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, analysis and reporting for effective business decision support (BDS)

Be required to provide financial expertise and analytical insights with Business Unit management, with the aim of optimizing revenue performance and minimizing costs in an efficient and effective means, while maintaining a strong level of internal controls. This role must be responsive to change, proactively anticipating data, insights and analytics to help the business make the right data driven decisions

Report directly to the Finance Manager, working closely with the BU Management team and receiving support from the global finance Centre of Expertise Sales/Revenue & Costs

Key responsibilities include:

Financial Planning, Budgeting, and Forecasting
Advise the business on shaping the BU strategic direction (3 year plans, Budgets, LV's).
Drive value creation through providing clearly constructed recommendations for action
Use forecasting tools to develop scenario analysis
Provide financial insight at review meetings to drive actions and foster a no surprises culture
Provide & own the financials underpinning the forecasts & strategic plan
Provide constructive challenge to forecasts
Own forecast commentaries that provide insight to the business

Management Reporting
Balance stakeholder needs to deliver high quality information at the right time in the right way and right the first time
Monthly performance analysis on responsibility area on global revenue streams & costs and report to BU with commentary and insight on trends and variances
Support management by providing finance insights and identifying revenue business drivers for the (monthly) operational and business performance metrics (incl. LV's)
Prepare and provide meaningful insights in developments including insights on attrition, upsell, new sales

Business Partnership
Balance stakeholder needs to deliver high quality information at the right time in the right way and right the first time
Monthly performance analysis on responsibility area on global revenue streams & costs, trends and report to BU with commentary and insight on trends and variances
Support management by providing financial insights and identifying revenue business drivers for the (monthly) operational and business performance metrics (incl. LV's)
Prepare and provide meaningful insights in developments and financial drivers; including insights on attrition, upsell, new sales
Be a key point of contact for ad-hoc analysis and reporting requirements from the defined business area. Partner effectively with Clinical Solutions management and proactively support finance related requests; collaborate with stakeholders to ensure effective and timely management reporting in line with the financial and strategic calendar
Analyze and challenge business performance based on the financial data. Provide insight to support recommendations for improvement or change

System Expertise
Demonstrate high level of expertise in reporting from the Elsevier financial reporting systems (Hyperion, Oracle, HFM) and associated financial reporting tools. Working largely independently, assist with maintaining and developing the standard suite of financial reports.
Projects
Participate and support ad-hoc analysis and reporting requirements for specific business initiatives that may arise from time to time.

Education, Knowledge & Skill Requirements:
  • University degree, ideally in Finance, Accounting or related area. MBA or advanced business degree helpful.
  • Minimum 5 years relevant experience in an Financial Analysis or Corporate Finance
  • Experience coordinating analysis, financial feasibility studies and business cases
  • Affinity with large and complex international working environment; ability to travel occasionally
  • Commercial and organizational awareness, ideally in a comparable industry
  • Financial skills: Robust knowledge & understanding of financial technical accounting standards and management accounting techniques & processes; ideally familiar with technology recharge models
  • Business skills: ability to contribute to overall business strategy and to support management team to achieve strategic goals
  • System knowledge: Excel (advanced level), PowerPoint, Hyperion, Oracle
  • Languages: strong English skills (spoken and written)
  • Be flexible and willing to travel as and when required (10%)
