Position Highlights
The University of Arizona's College of Applied Science and Technology is seeking an Accountant position to manage sponsored accounts and assist grant PI's with financial grant management, and to also be the college's point of contact for payroll assistance. CAST is seeking a candidate with grant financial management and payroll experience. This position will assist grant managers balance grant budgets and manage sponsored accounts. This position will also assist college employees with payroll questions and payroll accounting. Financial accounting knowledge, independent critical thinking and decision making, and the ability to work with little or no supervision are critical to this position.

Duties & Responsibilities

Performs detailed accounting assignments requiring a basic knowledge of accounting theory and principles. Work is subject to general review by senior accounting personnel. Provides specialized or general analysis support in various accounting functions like A/R, A/P, Payroll, cost accounting, etc. Reviews and analyzes journal vouchers, accounting classification and other accounting/financial statements.

Assists higher level accountants in a variety of accounting assignments like taking trial balances, preparing P&L statements, computing and distributing labor.

Provides pre-award and post-award support related to grants management, proposal review and preparation, administration, and financial activities, including reporting, financial projections, financial reconciliation, procurement, and accounting services.

Collaborates with Principal Investigators and Program Managers to ensure compliance with regulations, terms and conditions and sub award/subcontracting issuance and administration.

Provide guidance and support regarding financial and business transactions for grants/contracts/MOUs including any necessary position distribution changes as well as SET'S.

Works directly with Program Managers to maintain and reconcile accounts monthly with University systems in accordance with University and College policies and procedures.

Works directly with Program Managers to prepare budget changes for assigned accounts/projects.

Work directly with PI and Program Managers to ensure that all required effort reporting is completed on time.

Upon receiving award, communicates with PI, Program Managers and other personnel regarding terms, conditions and budgets related to ongoing administration of grants and contracts.

Assist in the coordination of financial activities between project partners.

Communicate timely with all parties involved to avoid/address issues.

Oversee and manage payroll for the college.

Train employees and supervisors for the college on time entry and time approval.

Serve as the main point of contact for college staff and faculty regarding payroll questions and issues.

Ensure all payroll is submitted and approved prior to required deadlines.

Communicate payroll updates, changes, and deadlines to the college.

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
Minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience required.

Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated experience with grant accounting and payroll processing. Experience with UA enterprise system such as UAccess Analytics, Financials, Research, and Employee. Experience with FLSA laws. Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience required.
