A Day in the Life

Reporting to the Financial Controller, the Group Accounting and Reporting Lead will play a leading role in GAAP accounting and management reporting activities for the Australian and New Zealand businesses. You will manage the performance and service delivery of the Shared Service Centre on the offshored / outsourced processes maintaining the quality of service delivery and the governance of the Shared Service Centre. As an internal controls champion and you will lead any internal audits and support the Financial Controller with the management of the local internal control committees. It will be an opportunity through continuous improvement projects to ensure highly effective and efficient end-to-end processes to the Medtronic Business Units. As a talented High-Potential you will be coached and mentored and offered the opportunity to back-up the Financial Controller as required.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Provides functional guidance to the business, FP&A, SSC on accounting and reporting matters, as required. Interacts proactively within Finance, business units and SSC / BPO to ensure accurate accounting, and financial reporting. Resolve all escalated issues and disputes.
  • Ensures productivity, continuous improvements and seamless service.
  • Serves as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for related policies and processes, supports productivity objectives and continuous improvement, process changes and leading practices to have an efficient and effective process.
  • Supports the balance sheet account reconciliations of allocated accounts and ensures timely resolution and cleans of overdue items identified. Ensure proper accounting of financial transactions and accounting specific questions are well addressed and solved, with escalations to Region or Technical Accounting, as required.
  • Actively manage the review of accounts to ensure all financial transactions are valid and recorded to ensure accuracy of reported data, perform variance analysis and plausibility checks using different sources of information.
  • Accountable for a smooth month-end and quarter- end closing activities.
  • Ensures close collaboration with key stakeholder such as FP&A/CFO for R2R matters and SSC for closing activities and Regional controllership teams for Regional / global guidelines.
  • Proactively support implementation of Medtronic policies and procedures and escalate any exceptions to the standards. Drive harmonization of processes and controls as well as cross-Business Unit standardisation


Must Have:
  • Minimum 7 years + post qualification experience
  • Strong quantitative analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Solid accounting (GAAP) or similar, Financial and business management foundation.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment and a high degree of initiative and self-motivation.
  • Ability to interface with all levels of management and effectively work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Experience with SAP, CMR, Essbase, Spend and MS Office suite
  • Ability to mentor, monitor, manage and lead people from different levels including peers, offshored and outsourced partners
  • Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting Major), or equivalent
  • Member of the Institute of Charted Accountants or equivalent

  • Big 4 audit experience desirable
  • Sarbanes Oxley experience
