About the role:

The Finance Manager - Merchandise will be tasked with providing commercial support and analysis to the Merchandise Leadership Team.

Reporting into the Head of Finance - Merchandise, Marketing & Supply Chain , this position will be responsible for driving the annual planning and budget cycle by liaising with key stakeholders to ensure accurate and achievable targets are set. They will also be responsible for preparing financial models for growth strategies, business cases, trials and concepts, and ensure reporting is in place to measure progress and success of growth strategies.

Our ideal candidate will have completed their CPA or CA, and have a minimum of 10 years' experience working in a financial role within the retail or FMCG industry. They will also have strong analytical skills, high level influencing skills, be team and customer focused, action oriented, and have strong commercial orientation and acumen.

As the Finance Manager - Merchandise, you can expect to:
  • Provide independent financial and commercial support and advice to the Merchandise Leadership Team
  • Act in an advisory capacity to the Merchandise General Managers on all finance matters
  • Proactively work with the Merchandise Planning team on the monthly forecasts to improve accuracy and identify opportunities to deliver an improved commercial outcome
  • Develop accurate financial forecasting processes to provide clear visibility of monthly and full year results
  • Proactively seek opportunities to provide and develop value adding analysis to facilitate efficient and effective decision making across the department (drive better outcomes)
  • Prepare financial models for all Merchandise Growth Strategies and business cases and ensure reporting in place to measure progress and success of growth strategies
  • Communicate monthly results to management highlighting opportunities for improvement
  • Provide analytical support and commercial advice to assist in effectively allocating resources to meet business financial outcomes
  • Prepare financial models and pressure test growth strategies over period of the Corporate plan
  • Incorporate and challenge financial thinking regarding expected economic /competitor influences and businesses future strategic agenda
  • Understand the entrepreneurial nature of the business and provide support in the measures of success for trial and recommendations for systems and compliance
  • Lead and drive the performance of the team ensuring business objectives are delivered
  • Coach and develop the team, ensuring development plans are prepared, team is trained and continuously challenged


You'll need:
  • A tertiary qualification in Commerce, or Business degree with relevant accounting and finance majors
  • 10+ years' working experience in a finance function, for a large-scale retail operation or similar
  • Experience leading a team of accountants
  • Knowledge of accounting and budgeting principles to enable robust monthly reporting, forecasting, and budgeting models
  • Ability to manage multiple key stakeholders across the business to deliver an accurate budget/forecast/corporate plan in a timely manner
  • Strong commercial orientation and commercial acumen
  • Proficient computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, OneDrive, SharePoint, TM1, Cognos)
