This is a six (6) month fixed-term, full-time position, with possible twelve (12) months extension, commencing ASAP
We are looking for an exceptional leader in strategic development, professional coordinator of internal audit and assurance processes, and a confident communicator. You will bring new ideas, perspectives and experiences to the Department of Education to influence and implement reform in an ever changing environment.
As the Director, you will identify, establish and maintain a risk driven audit and assurance program, and a strategic framework that addresses system-wide risks and business continuity plans. Working with the Director General, Audit Committee and Corporate Executive, you will identify and report on key strategic and operational risks, including ways to achieve greater efficiencies across the Department, supporting key organisational initiatives and legislation.
You will provide a strategic oversight on reviews, investigations and audits undertaken, ensuring immediate and long term recommendations are achievable and sustainable. With knowledge and experience of relevant legislation, you will lead the design, review and implementation of relevant policies and procedures for the Department. This will include being aware of emerging trends, issues and best practice.
Through the development and maintenance of effective workplace relationships, you will work collaboratively with other leadership teams, principals, Executive Directors, senior management and other key stakeholders. You will provide accurate and timely information on audit and assurance matters, and represent the Director General and Department in a range of forums relating to audit.
The Director, Internal Audit and Assurance reports to the Director General through the Audit Committee on all audit matters across the Department. The Directorate delivers an independent, objective assurance and advisory service to meet the broad client needs across the Department. In addition, provides high-level audit and risk management expertise with an emphasis on quality audit and risk management programs that addresses organisational accountability.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our branch for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- possess a tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline (for example Accounting, Auditing, Commerce or equivalent) and/or significant professional experience in this area

- complete the Department's induction program within three months of commencement
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
