Candidate Specification

The ideal candidate will have the following experience:
  • Degree (or equivalent) in Engineering/Science (preferably IT/ Systems/ Railway Engineering).
  • P.Eng in BC or Ontario, or eligible for membership with EGBC or PEO as a P.Eng
  • 10 - 15 years' progressive experience in System Assurance with significant experience in rail and transit projects.
  • Experience in delivery using Common Safety Method Approach
  • Demonstrable strength in a minimum of two of the following:
    • RAM (EN 50126)
    • V&V
    • Hazard identification and management
    • Safety Integrity identification and management (EN 50126/IEC 61508)
    • Safety Case development
    • Safety Certification (EN 51026 and /or MIL 882E)
  • Working knowledge of the remainder
  • Good communication skills and English fluency.
  • Good interpersonal skills with proven ability to work effectively as part of a multi- disciplined team.
  • Able to hold competent technical discussions with Client representatives
  • Able to hold competent business discussions with Clients
  • Able to interface with domain specialists, design managers and construction project managers, in a competent professional manner.
  • Broad experience of delivery within major infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of railway systems and / or operation within infrastructure projects / technology development and implementation projects.
Travel Requirements:
  • Travel is part of the job and it is expected that the successful applicant will be able to travel within Canada and the US to MM locations and project offices


Job Description

Mott MacDonald is looking for an individual to develop, support and lead the execution of the systems assurance activities on projects executed by Mott MacDonald in North America with direct responsibility for those projects occurring in Canada. They will be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with key suppliers, regulators, safety bodies, industry groups and Standards bodies in North America and Europe.

This role reports to the Rail Systems Practice Lead within Mott MacDonald Canada.

Responsibilities will include:
  • Lead the development, adoption and delivery of key System Assurance processes and practices within MM's North American practices; to include Reliability, Availability and Maintainability (RAM), Verification and Validation (V&V) and Safety Management
  • Lead the System Assurance elements of project bids within Mott MacDonald Canada, including RAM and Safety Management together with budget development as necessary.
  • Lead the Systems Assurance (SA) elements of project delivery within Mott MacDonald Canada, including RAM, V&V, Safety Case development and Safety Certification together with budget management.
  • Provide direct SA support and insight to each project's management and delivery team
  • Select, develop and work with key delivery partners and service providers for projects.
  • Support the development of MM Canada's Rail Systems Practice
  • Undertake cost review and analysis of System Assurance costs against delivery on each production project. Where necessary, discuss and agree corrective actions with relevant team members.
  • Engage with end clients as and when necessary
  • Develop and lead a System Assurance team.
  • Deliver strategic direction for System Assurance processes and practices within MM Canada and US Business Units.
  • Development of Rail Systems Practice business with Canada, in conjunction with the Practice Lead, to include Reliability, Availability and Maintainability (RAM), Verification and Validation (V&V), Hazard identification and management, Safety Integrity (SIL) management, Safety Management and Safety Certification
