You will join us as an Internal Audit Manager to provide internal audit services to South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse District Councils, with the aim of supporting the councils in managing an effective business and achieving their objectives. Internal audit assists the councils by evaluating the adequacy of governance, risk management, controls and use of resources through its planned and unplanned audit work and recommending improvements where necessary.

Internal Audit Manager Responsibilities:

- Develop and implement the councils' annual internal audit plan to provide an objective opinion on the degree to which the internal control environment supports and promotes the achievements of the councils' objectives.
- Assist the councils by evaluating the adequacy of governance, risk management, controls and use of resources through its planned audit work and recommending improvements, where necessary.
- Review, appraise and report upon the extent to which the councils' assets and interests are accounted for and safe-guarded from losses, which include fraud and other offences, such as waste, extravagance, inefficient administration and poor value for money.
- Lead by example in modelling the conduct, behaviour and values expected of the councils' employees and establish a working environment within your service in which individuals and teams can excel.
- Participate in the appointment, development and appraisal of officers within your service.
- Deliver excellence across your service through the development of high performance, effective delegation, communication and prioritising customer service and satisfaction.
- Ensure performance management is embedded into the day-to-day work of the teams within your service.

Internal Audit Manager Requirements:

- In-depth knowledge and experience of internal auditing including a sound understanding of risk, governance and control.
- Proven successful line management experience.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to all levels of officer, management and councillors.
- Experience of planning, monitoring and managing budgets.
- A relevant professional qualification or equivalent demonstrable vocational experience.

If you have the following experience or qualifications - it's a bonus

- Sound knowledge of auditing principles and standards as set out in the Public Sector Internal Audit Standards (PSIAS).
- Experience of working in a local government environment.
- Knowledge of legislation and good practice across district council services.
