A public sector hospital based in the city centre is looking to hire an experienced finance candidate for a 12 month maternity contract for three days per week. Previous experience working in a hospital or in the public sector would be highly beneficial.

Key Responsibilities
  • Importing of information from the Patient Administration System and the production of invoices
  • Running of all monthly reports
  • Submit claims for payment to VHI, BUPA etc. promptly, verifying all claims are in order prior to submission and have an ability to work to deadlines.
  • Liaising with Hospital Consultants and their secretaries re billing
  • Handling patient queries and account problems
  • Provide general accounting cover to include payroll, accounts payable and other accounting and assisting the accountant when requested with other ad hoc duties.
  • Provide regular reporting and analysis to include HSE reporting.
  • Ensure the duties of the department are being carried out efficiently and effectively. Display leadership in work practices and procedures. The ability to lead change.
  • Undertake improvements to speed up processing and improve cash receipts.
  • To have knowledge of and keep up to date with Health Legislation / Health Insurance rules and regulations in the area of hospital charges and patient eligibility.
  • Maintain operation of procedures and existing computer system. Review and make recommendations for further improvement and development. Co-operate with developments and use Information Technology as an integral part of day-to-day work.
  • Have good organisational and interpersonal skills. Ability to deal with Hospital Consultants and Staff, Health Insurance Organisations and to liaise with Hospital Officers, (regarding implementation of Policies, Personnel, Training, Health and Safety, Admissions, Services, Freedom of Information etc.).
  • Assist the Finance Department as required in the preparation of reports, budgets and estimates regarding patient income.
  • Reconciliation at debtors control account on a monthly basis.
  • Undertake any other duties that may be assigned from time to time by the Director of Finance & Organisational Services.

Experience Required:

Previous experience working in the public sector in a finance position would be highly beneficial.
