Kangaroo Island lies 13.5 kilometres off the mainland of South Australia, less than 3 hours by road and ferry south of Adelaide. Totalling 4,400 square kilometres, over a third of the island is protected in nature reserves, home to native wildlife like Kangaroos, Echidnas, and diverse bird species including the Glossy Black Cockatoo. The Island is renowned for its blend of rugged and natural beauty which attracts over 200,000 visitors each year.

Kangaroo Island Council services a community of approximately 4,500 residents. Based in Kingscote, the Council's vision for Kangaroo Island is a confident, growing and cohesive community.

Kangaroo Island Council are seeking applications for the position of Finance Manager. Reporting to the Director of Corporate Services, your main responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
  • Lead and support a team of 4 finance staff in the areas of Accounts Payable/Receivable, Payroll, Rates, and general accounting
  • Support the Executive Leadership Team through detailed financial analysis and reporting
  • Timely preparation of financial statements, operational budgets and long-term financial plans aligned to Council's financial strategy
  • Management of statutory reporting, financial governance and audit compliance
  • Assist the Council through ongoing financial reviews, continuous improvement and shared best practice
Essential Criteria:
  • Current CA/CPA membership
  • A tertiary qualification in accounting or finance
  • Previous experience supervising accounts staff
  • Proven ERP skills coupled with Advanced Excel
  • Proven financial analysis, modelling and reporting skills
  • Excellent communications, both written and verbal, with the ability to confidently discuss and present financial reports to Council and the Elected Members
