ACCOUNTANT (Contract Position)
Reports to:
Chief Financial Officer/ his designate
Supervisor To:
Junior Accounts Staff
Position Purpose:
The incumbent will be responsible for providing financial information to the Divisional Manager - Finance and/or his designate by researching and analysing accounting data and preparing reports and managing the day to day activity of junior staff within the department.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Prepares asset, liability, and capital account entries by compiling and analysing account information.
2. Documents financial transactions by entering account information.
3. Recommends financial actions by analysing accounting options.
4. Summarises current financial status by collecting information; preparing balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other reports.
5. Maintains accounting controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures.
6. Supervises the activity of the department's technicians and clerks.
7. Reconciles financial discrepancies by collecting and analysing account information.
8. Secures financial information by completing database backups.
9. Prepares payments by verifying documentation, and requesting disbursements.
10. Answers accounting procedure questions by researching and interpreting accounting policy and regulations.
11. Performs other duties as may be required from time to time.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
* Knowledge of accounting principles and methods and their application to governmental accounting.
* Considerable knowledge of project accounting and accounting systems in state companies.
* Expert knowledge of Peachtree and Micropay or other payroll software.
* Good written and oral communication skills.
* Good interpersonal skills.
* Excellent supervisory skills.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
* Must be ACCA certified.
* A minimum of 3-5 years' experience in a similar capacity.
* Past supervisory experience a must.
