Job description:

Position Summary

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Finance, and working under the supervision of the Supervisor, Corporate Accounting, the Corporate Accountant is responsible for corporate accounting and analysis for First Quantum Minerals Limited (FQML) and its' subsidiaries. The Corporate Accountant will also be the accounts payable and payroll backup in the absence of the Accounts Payable and Payroll Analyst.

Responsibilities

Responsible for maintaining the accounts of up to 15-20 FQML subsidiary legal entities in Prontos and reporting monthly results to the Group Finance team in Hyperion.

• Prepare journal entries with appropriate documentation.
• Prepare monthly intercompany invoices and analysis of related intercompany accounts.
• Report month-end results in Hyperion for Group Finance.
• Prepare annual legal entity financial statements for tax purposes.
• Prepare monthly Exploration Reporting for the explorations Group.

Support the monthly accounting and reporting process for FQML.

• Fixed assets - setting up assets, depreciation run, reconciliation to GL, adherence to company depreciation policy.
• Support the intercompany process for FQML.
• Follow up with other departments and various mine/exploration site staff to gather data for journal entries and account analysis.
• Prepare various schedules and analysis and adhoc reports as required to support month-end and quarter-end reporting.
• Prepare monthly Asset Retirement Obligation Reporting for the FQML Closed Properties.

Prepare Statistics Canada reports in a timely manner with proper support schedules. Document existing processes, and where applicable, identify areas of improvement.

Assist with AP and payroll functions as a back up for the AP and Payroll Analyst.

• Perform the duties of the AP analyst during vacations and in case of rush payments in the AP and Payroll Analyst's absence.
• Review payment batches for GL coding.
• Prepare bi-weekly payroll and payroll JE in the absence of the AP and Payroll Analyst.

Qualifications

• Accounting diploma/degree, and is working towards an accounting designation.
• Good understanding of accounting principles and controls.
• Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, including being able to manipulate and present data on excel.
• Must have at least 3+ years of experience working in a similar role.
• Must have exposure to accounting (ERP) systems. Exposure to Pronto and Hyperion Financial Management Systems would be an asset.
• Must be able to organize and prioritize work, and be able to meet tight deadlines, without compromising on attention to detail.
• Must be able to apply critical thinking and analysis to work.
• Have excellent verbal and written communication and documentation skills.
• Good interpersonal skills and be professional and courteous.
• Ability to adapt to a changing work environment.
