Senior Subject Matter Leader - Cost Accounting

Global job purpose

Responsible for the timely and qualitative execution of Accounting Platform Operations for Management Accounting (Cost Accounting) (with focus on Value Flow Management), according to the defined activity split in the area of responsibility.

Ensures reliable figures in group and local reports on a "fit for purpose" level in his / her scope of responsibility in accordance with the BKA and the BMA directives, considering the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and according to the country specific legislation and country specific tax compliance accounting treatment allowing certification by external auditors.

Manages and leads topics functionally, working as senior expert for Value Flow Management, and also supporting and empowering team members' work delivery and development.

Major tasks and responsibilities
  • Be and act as the senior expert within assigned team and beyond, leading and managing functional areas within the team and providing guidance to other colleagues.
  • Drives and actively participates in and contribute to expert communities through global calls and other media
  • Interacts with key business functions (e.g. Controlling, Procurement, Product Supply, etc.) to ensure proper accounting for the particular areas of operation
  • Partners with the Global Office (GO) to ensure globally defined standards and activity splits, as well as liaise with the Service Center Manila/Barcelona regarding closing issues and to implement desired and necessary processes and changes
  • Interacts with internal and external auditors ensuring prompt response to audit requests. Contribute to set appropriate ICS controls are in place and operating effectively
  • Takes a key role in global as well local projects, legal entities and system mergers, acquisitions or divestitures.


Value Flow Management:
  • Be the first contact for local business (mainly controlling) regarding requirements for change in cost value flows (e.g. in CCA, PCA and COPA)
  • Challenges status quo and suggests possible improvements on business requirements following the "fit for purpose" concept, adding value through consultancy, solutions proposals and complexity reductions
  • Monitors data quality, identifies correction requirements and coordinates as well as performs adjustments for CCA, PCA and CO-PA. Interfaces with GO in special cases to decide on appropriate value flow
  • Anticipates possible issues and pro-actively manages changes. Performs and uses escalation management
  • Creates and specifies ticket / requirement for new and adjusted master data and value flows (CC, internal order, cost element, cycle/cost allocation) and informs business
  • Initiates / approves accounting posting request (WPA/BayJED) for postings within Overhead Management including possible corrections in Income Statement and Segment Reporting.
  • Manages BW/H2R reports in an expert level of expertise, being able to give guidance and support other colleagues and other stakeholders.
  • Expert ad hoc support and project support for related areas.
  • Supports external & internal audit and performs ICS controls in his/her own area of expertise and responsibility in case of need


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting with 7+ years of related experience, MBA/MS with 2+ years of related experience or 7-10 years of cost accounting and/or related experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of cost accounting systems and procedures both at a corporate level and a manufacturing level.
  • Expertise with enterprise-wide business systems (FI / CO modules of SAP) and proficiency of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Capability to develop alternative solutions to problems and handle complex problems independently.
  • Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy, initiative and reliability.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and promptly at all levels of the organization, supporting department objectives and management decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work on teams and promote the team approach.
  • Demonstrated ability to work through ambiguity and usage of sound judgement in making decisions
  • Advanced skills and courage for proactive communication and consultancy/alignment with stakeholders and business contacts.
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines, which requires flexibility and willingness to work overtime as needed, especially during monthly closing and annual planning cycles.
  • Willingness to travel up to 30% or as projects dictates.
  • Fluent English, both spoken and written.


Beneficial:
  • Knowledge of Bayer Group accounting and reporting requirements, especially PA/IV and/or VFM in accordance with the Bayer Management Accounting Directive
  • Prior experience in a cost accounting/controlling positions with demonstrated ability for functional leadership
  • General SAP knowledge and/or SAP Product Costing expertise
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and/or Certified Management Account (CMA).
  • Knowledge of German or other languages
