About the role

The Chief Accountant is responsible for the provision of accurate, effective and efficient financial accounting across the Council, the production of the Statement of Accounts for Wiltshire Council, and relevant statutory financial returns. The role is the technical lead for the central finance function and the finance control environment, focussed on driving quality, and also responsible for all technical accounting areas such as treasury management, banking, VAT & Tax and the Chart of Accounts under the direction of the Head of Corporate Finance. As the Chief Accountant you will provide high quality technical financial accounting solutions and effective strategic management, alongside strategic financial advice to support the short, medium and longer term decision shaping and making process. You will be the Council's professional lead on the delivery of annual accounts and other statutory financial accounting to ensure that there is high quality financial data across the council.

About you

You will be an experienced, professionally qualified accountant (CCAB) and be able to demonstrate extensive management experience in a complex financial environment and extensive experience of interpreting complex financial regulations. A forward thinking individual you will be able to demonstrate significant experience in driving through high performance, effectively managing teams and influencing high standards across organisations. You will have proven experience of managing and delivering technical financial projects and excellent experience of delivery at a senior level in a financial environment, with a track record of leading and motivating staff and having established credibility in leading similar finance teams, and working effectively across all areas of large and complex organisations and projects with successful outcomes. You will have a good understanding of the local government financial regulatory environment and finance systems and have the ability to work under pressure to delivery high quality outcomes.
