BUSINESS ANALYST - Corporate Sustainability

In this global, role you will be the key partner and trusted advisor to Real Estate and Workplace (REW), information technology (IT), and strategic sourcing teams globally spanning Americas, India, APJ, and EMEA on areas that include resource efficiency and corporate sustainability goals.

The position requires a deep understanding of the technical aspects of sustainability as it relates to business operations of REW, strategic sourcing, IT, and ownership of the operational data from these business operations for carbon and ESG reporting. You will also work with the Enterprise Data and Analytics (EDA) Team to enable an analysis of and derive value from these operational data.

Specific responsibilities and activities include:

Energy and carbon reduction

Support REW teams in planning, budgeting, and tracking multiyear or yearly energy efficiency (and carbon reduction) projects to support VMware's science-based targets.

Ensure REW teams track the programs and projects in a system of record for annual energy and carbon reduction reporting.

Drive REW data collection and analysis of carbon, energy, water using standard metrics to aid in continuous improvement of increased value to the business

Report out sustainability progress (bi-annual) towards goals with respect to energy, renewable, waste, transport reduction to REW, and sustainability management.

E-waste

Support strategic sourcing teams in tracking and reporting quarterly e-waste data by region, including zero e-waste to landfill targets. Track compliance documents related to responsible disposal such as Sustainable Disposal Certifications.

Carbon reporting and tools:

Be the single point of contact for the SaaS carbon, water, waste system of record. Manage feedback and product feature requests to SaaS tool. Administration of SaaS tool including new users' access, and training.

Expand the SaaS platform to cover refrigerant and waste reporting for CDP and track energy efficiency projects, and green building certifications

Drive global REW geo SaaS platform bi-annual and ad-hoc training

Manage global data collection to meet reporting deadlines (CDP, SASB, and 10K):
  • waste data
  • perform a quarterly quality check of electricity, fuel, waste, water data to identify anomalies
  • commuter transport
  • colocation
  • others

Work with the global EH&S team and implement a robust scope 1- refrigerant management program for all sites.

Assist with annual CDP reporting. Ensure timely and complete data collection.

Active collaboration with global peers and external platform partners.

ESG data and tools:

Collect Global Impact Report (GIR) ESG (environmental, social and governance) performance summary data (energy, water, waste, compliance) and HR data annually

Develop and manage the GIR ESG data system

Create and manage GIR data dashboard

Minimum requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Energy or Environmental Sciences discipline or equivalent practical experience
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience in a corporate environment in sustainability, EH&S, real estate and operations, and or related field
  • Good understanding of facilities, environmental management, and operational sustainability
  • Ability to communicate complex concepts clearly with external partners and internal stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Curiosity & problem-solving skills
  • Excellent analytical skills with strong attention to detail, the ability to research, and resolve complex issues.
  • Experience working with different cultures and in an international, multidisciplinary environment as this is a global role
  • Excellent verbal, written and organizational skills
  • Proven interpersonal skills and ability to develop trust and influence others
  • Team player, flexible and able to work independently
  • Highly structured, and excellent communication skills

Preferred qualifications
  • Familiar with national and international energy-related regulations - ECBC India, ESOS UK, California code, CDP reporting, SASB, LEED
  • Good understanding of MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) systems, renewable energy.
  • Knowledge and experience with SaaS-based ESG tracking tools. Thrive on data and can abstract conclusions.
  • Proven analytical ability of designing, organizing useful business metrics & dashboards to drive business cadence and make operational decisions.
