A global manufacturing and production business based in Manchester are looking for a VAT Accountant to join their team on an initial 6 month fixed term contract. The business have been growing in size over the past few years and have an excellent reputation for training and developing their staff.

Description
Purpose of the VAT Accountant - 6 month fixed term contract
The primary responsibility of this role is to undertake Indirect Tax compliance obligations within the European legal entities.
Main Responsibilities:
- Produce and submit periodic VAT and Intrastat return and EC Sales Listings as required for the VAT registrations
- Follow clearly defined process and using the tools and technology solutions provided.
- Carry out pre-submission audit checks and file periodic returns within deadlines.
- Ensure timely and accurate payments of VAT liabilities.
- Reconcile VAT and statistical returns to each other and the balance sheet.
- Maintain records of all VAT obligations managed by the ESSC.
- Update work-flow management on a daily basis and ensure that all deadlines are met.
- Prepare periodic VAT forecasts
- Be alternative point of contact for VAT related queries from the business, other group functions and internal stakeholders, tax authorities and external stakeholders.
- Provide assistance to the Head of VAT during any indirect tax audit.
- Optimize compliance processes and where possible to improve time and cost efficiencies.
- Create and maintain up-to date process documentation.
- Identify oversights and report VAT risks to Head of VAT.
- Ensure that control procedures are abided and effectively executed.
- Participate in tax and cross functional projects as required.
Profile
VAT Accountant - 6 month fixed term contract
- Previous indirect tax experience in multi-national organisation or accountancy practice
- VAT knowledge with previous experience of VAT in a working environment
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Ability to speak other European languages would be advantageous
