A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen to join a market leading, specialist organisation based on the outskirts of Carlisle. The vacancy has arisen due to restructure and will incorporate a blend of duties in financial reporting and import/export administration. Its an exciting time to join the organisation after a period of change.

Your new role
Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Assistant Accountant will have a varied range of duties that will ensure all financial transactions are accurate to enable management reporting on a timely basis.

Typical duties will include:
  • Support of routines involving Sales Ledger debtors to include receipt of payments and credit control procedures, issue of statements, etc...
  • Sales invoicing procedures, including Quality/Action File amendments, Proof of Delivery routines and resolution of invoicing discrepancies.
  • Preparation and control of carrier claims.
  • Support all aspects of Purchase Ledger, to include statement reconciliation and resolution of invoicing discrepancies.
  • Processing of all staff expenses claims and corporate credit cards.
  • Ensuring all company expenditure is validated by matching to purchase order and/or obtaining approval off Finance Manager
  • Reconciliation of sterling and currency bank accounts and processing of transactions, ie BACS, direct debits, faster payments, credit card transactions, transfers etc...
  • Reconciliation of e-commerce sales and receipts.
  • Control and accounting for petty cash transactions.
  • Assistance with data control for Intrastat purposes.
  • Control of information relating to EC Sales Lists and exports for HMRC purposes ensuring appropriate documentation is obtained (certificate of shipment, etc...) and the timely submission of data.
  • General assistance with the preparation of the VAT return.


What you'll need to succeed
Solid finance experience and ability and understanding of process
Confidence of working unsupervised
Strong systems experience (SAP would be advantageous)
Good excel skills
Hands on, professional attitude

What you'll get in return
Salary up to £25000 per annum
22 days holiday plus bank holidays
Full time, permanent role Monday to Thursday 8.30-5pm (30 mins lunch) Friday 8.30-2pm
Discretional bonus
Matched pension contributions 5%
Death in service, 4 x salary
