Organisation safeguarding cheetah population

Accommodation provided

Gaborone, Botswana

4-6 weeks

Our partner works with local communities and government to safeguard Botswana’s cheetah population through scientific research and education. They require support in preparing for an external audit.

At present, they are running four broad programmes: Scientific Research; monitoring and collecting data on cheetah populations, and on carnivore conflict. Farming and Conservation; working with local farmers to support them in improving their livelihoods while protecting the cheetah population. Communities for Conservation; working with communities to explore and pilot small scale businesses as alternate sources of income. Education and Awareness; facilitating immersive workshops for school children and teachers.

They feel that they are managing their day-to-day accounting quite well, assisted through support from previous AfID volunteers, and have requested specific support in preparing for an external audit. Your role would be to review their controls, systems & processes and support them in implementing recommendations from their last audit before preparing them for the 2020 audit.

This is a well-structured assignment, with specific and clearly defined goals, with a unique organisation addressing threats to the long-term survival of the national cheetah population.
