Job Purpose:

  • We are seeking an outstanding candidate to be Global Head of Equities Valuation Control Group within Product Control. This is a critical and influential role. Independent Price Verification (IPV) is a key function within Citi and the team are a vital part of the Product Control organisation, and this candidate would lead the global team responsible for this for the Commodities trading business. The goal for the VCG team is to provide an exceptional quality of analysis whilst at the same time ensuring a high level of control.
  • This role requires significant technical understanding of the products traded within Equities, and across Markets and Banking, including some understanding of the models that are used.
  • The Global Head of Equities VCG will be interacting on a daily basis with Senior Management within the Front Office and Risk Management areas covering Equities and is a high profile role, both within Product Control as well as across ICG Markets.
  • The role requires a strong, and increasing, focus and appreciation of the legal entity impact of the Price Verification process.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills are vital. The Global Head of Equities VCG meets on a regular basis with internal and external audit, as well as all key global and regional regulators and the successful candidate needs to be able to demonstrate an ability to communicate complex ideas concisely and effectively. The role also involves ensuring global consistency and working with the Senior Product Control Managers, and other Global Heads within VCG across the regions.
  • The successful candidate will be expected to leverage a network of business relationships. He/she will be viewed as a thought leader on Price Verification both in the firm and the industry.
  • This is a position for an experienced, dynamic, technically-strong senior executive, who can manage all aspects of the role.
  • The role reports to the Global Head Of Valuation Control for Citigroup.


  • Job Background/context:

  • The VCG team is a cornerstone of the Product Control function. The function is organised into product-aligned teams including a dedicated Price Verification team. The product scope is comprehensive and includes the full range of security and derivative products.
  • The Global Equities VCG team is approximately 30 FTE based in London, New York, Hong Kong, Buffalo and Budapest.
  • Perform the independent price verification for Equities traded inventory, review/calculate the market valuation adjustments and take part on other key control reviews such as those for new trades.
  • Represent VCG in relevant regulatory meetings and management of ongoing relationship and discussions with Regulators. There will also be regular interaction with a wide variety of other functions within Markets and Banking.


  • Key Responsibilities:

    People Management and Leadership:
  • Strong leadership and setting a clear structure of accountability across all aspects of valuation
  • Developing skills within team, identifying training and development areas for individuals
  • Setting a clear agenda, direction, goals and objectives for the Global Equities VCG team, as well as contributing to overall agenda and direction of the Global Valuation Control Group.
  • Leading and guiding team in developing techniques in identifying pricing issues, valuation parameters or instrument types that may require particular attention
  • Promoting the teams development of innovative price testing methodologies
  • Active role as part of broader regional and global product Control senior management team


  • Control Framework:
  • Accountability for Valuations MCA (Managers Control Assessment) control design, effective operating and control escalation across the Global Equities business activity
  • Ownership for driving systems and control improvements
  • Preparation for all internal and external reviews, including regulatory.
  • Senior liaison with internal, external audit and regulators covering all aspects of valuation
  • Acting as the senior point of escalation with regards to any discrepancies and breaches faced by the Valuations team
  • Senior point of reference for new trade review and approval
  • Responsibility with regards to final decision making on all valuation matters relating to Global Equities
  • Management approval point for new models and model valuation adjustments


  • Reporting:
  • Ownership of all information provided to the Valuation Control Reporting Team for the Global Equities business
  • Ensuring consistency of price testing framework between products and across regions for the Equities business
  • Senior responsible representative at all management forums in relation to valuation matters for Equities
  • Acting as the senior partner to the Business, Risk, Compliance and Finance in relation to valuation matters
  • Regulatory:
  • Senior point of contact with external audit and regulatory bodies, responsible for all aspects of valuation related reporting and controls
  • Preparation for all Valuations regulatory and audit reviews
  • Key direct reporting responsibilities to EMEA Business and regional seniors under SMR (Senior Managers Regime)
