Express Employment Professionals of Roseville is seeking an experienced General Ledger Accountant for a full–time position with a property management company in Detroit. Job is located in the Jefferson Ave/Renaissance Center area.

Hours: Monday – Friday 8 AM – 5 PM (flexibility possible within a half hour of start/end times)

Salary: $23/hour to start ($48,000 annual). Contract–to–hire. Full benefits including a retirement plan, paid holidays, paid vacation, and medical benefits provided upon being hired in to client company. Company name will be disclosed upon further conversation/interview.

Job Duties:
  • Responsible for the daily, monthly, and periodic activity of the General Ledger to include:
1. Prepare and review journal entries to the General Ledger as needed
2. Prepare and submit standard recurring monthly journal entries on a timely basis
3. Prepare monthly budget vs. actual variance analyses
4. Perform reconciliations and analysis of account balances on a monthly basis
5. Complete month–end close activities in a timely manner
6. Update sub–ledgers and disbursement registers; reconcile to General Ledger balances
7. Prepare and analyze supporting schedules and work papers for accounts and programs, as required for internal use as well as the external audit
8. Prepare bank reconciliations on assigned accounts or areas
9. Complete fund accounting requirements, including management reporting and analysis
10. Manage/complete HUD reporting requirements in assigned areas
11. Assist in the preparation of monthly and consolidated financial statements
12. Assist with budget preparation and loading of data

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
1. Knowledge and understanding of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
2. Knowledge of fund and governmental accounting practices and principles
3. Knowledge of HUD, federal and state financial regulations and policies and procedures preferred
4. Knowledge of computerized information systems used in financial, accounting, and payroll applications
5. Skill in maintaining accurate financial records and preparing clear and accurate reports for informational, auditing and operational use
6. Skill in reconciling accounts, records, reports and journals
7. Skill in interpreting, applying and explaining complex laws, codes, regulations and ordinances
8. Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
9. Ability to work in a team environment
10. Ability to plan and organize work, set priorities, and meet critical deadlines
11. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Access
12. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, subordinates, co–workers, residents, auditors, consultants, and bank personnel

EDUCATION:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required
EXPERIENCE:
  • 3 or more years in a professional accounting capacity required
