Position Overview:

Lead U.S. cost accounting team to deliver reliable and efficient inventory valuation, correct cost standards and support the manufacturing and supply chain teams with financial reporting.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Lead a team of cost accountants in all the cost accounting related functions that support the attainment of ODL's key results.
  • Allocate work; develop and review key metrics with team and lead to achieve results.
  • Coach and develop employees.
  • Monitor and analyze department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
  • Design, execute and maintain the inventory valuation process for all Oracle organizations. Involves establishing and reviewing all cost elements: material, labor and overhead. Inventory valuation considers perpetual and inventory reserves.
  • Assist in the PCP process by rolling, copying, and updating costs as needed along with completing analysis of impact based upon item BoM/Routing changes per team requirements.
  • Work with Domestic and Asia teams to establish correct material costs, along with monitoring and forecasting purchase price variances. Process involves purchase cost and adders.
  • Establish and implement a process to review accuracy of bills of materials, routings and any other cost element (Ex: outside purchase services) on a regular basis.
  • Establish and implement a reliable and efficient process to allocate overhead cost among different cost departments.
  • Organize and coordinate periodic inventory counts along with the inventory control teams in the U.S. (Zeeland manufacturing and the distribution centers). Includes year end inventory counts in preparation for year end audit. Facilitating and organizing inventory counting to ensure inventory accuracy before the final year-end audit.
  • Own the financial statement closing processes, including analyzing and journaling inventory, COGS, freight and distribution cost. This ownership includes ensuring the integrity and effectiveness of the process. Accountable and responsible for accrual, reconciliation, and analysis of many general ledger accounts.
  • Variance reporting. Establish and implement a strong process to review, analyze and report all types of cost variances, such as material variances, WIP variances, over/under absorption processes. Work with cross functional teams in manufacturing and supply chain to understand and eliminate the variances. Report significant variances on a weekly basis by investigating potential problems and devising solutions with cross functional department teams.
  • Budget materials, labor and overhead (standard materials and the material variance accounts) for the annual budget.
  • Support new product development by providing cost estimates and business case analysis.
  • Support manufacturing & distribution operations with financial reporting and analysis.
  • Cycle counting reporting and holding meetings to facilitate communication to maintain inventory accuracy and resolve issues.
  • Assignment of critical and non-critical projects, i.e, pricing analysis, sourcing optimization, costing events, targeted product/customer financial modeling and scenarios for any ODL/WR client.
  • Provide and coordinate information to our audit firm for the interim audit and annual audit.
  • Treat all information in a confidential and professional manner.

Candidate Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field. MBA, CPA, CMA certification preferred.
  • Minimum seven years progressive cost accounting experience, which includes project management leadership experience and the development of technical expertise. Must have a firm grasp on conceptual and systematic costing issues.
  • Demonstrate a broad understanding of accounting principles, practices, and procedures. Possesses specific knowledge in areas of specialty to support departmental objectives.
  • Computer skills and experience with database programs such as Oracle, plus proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Usually works with minimum supervision, conferring with superior on unusual matters. Assignments are broad in nature, requiring originality and ingenuity.
  • Has applicable latitude for independent action or decisions. Must demonstrate a high level of interpersonal skills and the willingness to tactfully confront others on pertinent issues.
