Description:

The Strategic Portfolio Management team is responsible for designing, implementing, and continuously improving portfolio governance practices across the enterprise. As an Enterprise Portfolio Analyst, you will partner across the company to understand the projects within the portfolio and ensure initiatives are grouped, sequenced, and executed in a way that achieves the organizations business objectives. Focus for this position will be portfolio management, governance, and reporting across an extensive enterprise portfolio. The Enterprise Portfolio Analyst maintains a strategic view of organizational objectives for highly complex programs/projects, understands how various projects fit within those objectives and provides advice, assistance, and leadership to improve the quality of portfolio results.

This role will be based in El Dorado Hills. This position may require minimal travel (0-5% depending on location) and may allow partial telecommuting.

Responsibilities:
• Provide high quality portfolio analysis and utilize analytical capabilities to effectively collect, analyze, and summarize data regarding the portfolio
• Partner with and support Portfolio Managers to develop project health / performance and resource / capacity metrics appropriate to the various project portfolio management functions
• Implement solutions and develop techniques for measuring and reporting financial, schedule, resource, and other key performance metrics for ~$250M+ portfolios
• Reporting includes weekly, monthly and annual reports delivered in a timely and accurate manner
• Provide support for operational and ad hoc information as well as customized reports for specific audiences
• Develop and deliver detailed portfolio expense analysis and reporting
• Communicate/educate managers on project capacity planning / forecasting methodology
• Provide monthly portfolio variance analysis and revise/adjust project/portfolio expense forecasts
• Proactive identification of potential portfolio expense / resource capacity issues - work with management team to develop an action plan
• Participate in departmental projects as needed including assistance with in depth analysis of complex strategic project and/or program information
• Apply advanced concepts and techniques to complex problems requiring use of ingenuity and creativity. Takes a broad perspective to identify unique solutions
• Supports and implements continuous improvement plans to advance project portfolio management capabilities to meet new business & market demands
• Assists with defining and managing Portfolio Management Capability Roadmap and partners with leaders across the company to enable adoption of new portfolio management standards and methodologies.
• Measure, review, and audit projects and program management to ensure conformance to organization standards
• Identify and plan systematic corrective action to reduce errors and improve the quality of the projects through root cause examination
• Identify improvement opportunities and recommend strategic steps to capitalize on opportunities that will have a significant effect on organizational goals and objectives
• Manage portfolio risks and agree appropriate actions to mitigate/control ensuring strong governance is fully embedded. Manage controls and governance across all portfolios.
• Pro-actively manage issues, taking action to achieve urgent resolution and escalating promptly and clearly where necessary
• Provide visibility of portfolio progress against budget and schedule, In reporting format suitable for sponsors and executive management audiences, enabling informed executive decisions and actions to be taken
• Ensure benefits are assessed at the start of the portfolio lifecycle, that the benefits case is managed through the portfolio lifecycle, and that benefit realization is monitored proactively.
• Communicate portfolio health against strategic objectives, identifying mitigations and recommendations to support decision making
• Manage the portfolio process to achieve solutions and recommendations, using facilitation and negotiation skills. Influencing at multiple levels of the organization
• Partner across the enterprise to help shape the portfolio, contributing ideas, optimizing scope to achieve business objective and validating viability. Challenge existing thinking, processes and procedures and identify opportunities for change. Adopt the ability to see the bigger picture to identify potential enhancements & cost savings
Strategic business planning
• Assist in the development continuous project portfolio planning process, portfolio cost benefit analysis and risk assessment for assigned portfolios from concept through implementation
• Partner across the enterprise to establish and enhance portfolio processes with in support of creating multi-year strategic and tactical business plans to achieve short and long term business objectives
• As part of a broader management team may have influence on business unit, or function strategies and objectives
Adoption Support
• Reinforces adoption and implementation of portfolio management methodology in support of managing the defined portfolio
• Provide relationship management regarding planning, process and delivery of the portfolio across the enterprise
• Be a leader in the portfolio team to help demonstrate building this critical capability and mentoring other portfolio leads and project managers on the portfolio approach
• Works as a strategic partner with Finance, Portfolio Leaders, and Enterprise Project Management Office to mature

Qualifications:

Education/Experience Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree desired; may be compensated by an additional three (3) - five (5) years of work experience within the field(s) of Accounting, Finance, or Project Management
• Four (4) to seven (7) years combined experience with financial analysis, project management, or portfolio reporting
• Intermediate to Advanced knowledge of business tools including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and SharePoint
• Intermediate knowledge using Project Portfolio Management tools (PPM) desired, ideally Planview desired
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Highly adaptable to engage in a fast paced, deadline driven work environment
• Highly skilled in interpersonal and verbal/written communications, presentations, math, analytical and problem-solving, use of analytical tools (e.g., Power Point, Excel pivots and charts etc.)
• Experience with project management lifecycle, funding and budgeting processes desired
• Possess the process knowledge and people skills to complete accurate assignments and communicate results
• Does not have supervisory responsibility. Work is performed under general direction and reviewed for adequacy in meeting objectives. Receives minimal guidance
