Description

Summary

Supports the Finance Director in carrying out the responsibilities of the Finance/Accounting Department.

Relieves the Finance Director of certain responsibilities that will allow them to spend a greater portion of their time on Financial Statement preparation and analysis, Budget and Variance issues, and Forecasting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Answers accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data.

  • Maintain the Fixed Asset and associated depreciation schedules on the BNA Software system; provide monthly detail to Finance Director for General Journal entries; ensure proper recording of new purchases and disposals.

  • Maintains subledgers to support balances in general ledger accounts by verifying, allocating, and posting transactions.

  • Prepare correspondence as needed within the department.

  • Assist Finance Director with issues that arise in Payroll, Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable.

  • Reconciles bank accounts and all balance sheet accounts monthly.


Supports Director of Finance in annual audit preparation and presentation.

  • Assists in the development and implementation of goals, policies, priorities, and procedures relating to accounting.

  • Provide clerical and administrative support to Finance Director as requested.

  • Perform such other accounting, financial, or administrative tasks as may be required from time to time - quite often on short notice - by the CEO or Finance Director.

  • Assists with generation of 1099 and W-2s.

  • Assists with annual budget preparation.

  • Maintain internal control systems.

  • Cross-trained in all accounting positions; Capable of performing payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable should the need arise.

  • Track and maintain inventory records.

  • Calculate, prepare, and pay monthly sales tax.

  • Prepare and submit Monthly Statistical Report data.

  • Maintain Grant Revenue and performs reporting as required for program compliance.

  • Comply with any local, state, and federal government reporting requirements.

  • Participates in the installation and maintenance of new accounting, timekeeping, payroll, inventory, property and other related procedures and controls.

  • Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential.

  • Assists with special projects, as required.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Assists with supervisory responsibilities of Director of Finance, especially in the absence of the Finance Director. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university with 3-5 years related experience; or ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Willingness to further education if Bachelor's degree not obtained at time of hiring.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Human Resource systems; Internet Explorer software; MAS-90 Payroll systems; Excel Spreadsheet software and Microsoft Office software.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Current TXDL driver's license with a driving record acceptable to the Agency's automobile liability insurance carrier.

Other Skills and Abilities

Bilingual skills a plus.

Other Qualifications

Must be able to travel to all affiliated Goodwill locations and attend related Learning Events/conferences. Some overnight travel required.
