This is an executive role reporting to the CEO. As a member of the six-person Senior Leadership team you will lead the business, as the key adviser on all financial matters, and participate in creating the strategic direction for the business across all portfolios.
The Senior Vice President & Chief Financial Officer of a nearly $900 million credit union serving over 50,000 members from Harvard University and affiliated organizations has primary oversight responsibility for accounting/finance, audit and compliance. Ensures the safeguarding of assets through the development, implementation and monitoring of proper internal controls, risk management and asset/liability management. Develops and monitors business planning, investment strategy, insurance programs and integrated financial and technological systems and reporting. Provides strategic direction and support across all functional areas. Reports directly to the President & CEO and a contributing member of the senior executive team and various committees. Key contributor for developing and monitoring service excellence and employee engagement strategies geared toward creating a clear competitive advantage.
Duties & Responsibilities
Principal Job Functions:
• Manages and develops the accounting/finance, audit, and compliance functions for the Credit Union.
• Directs all financial, tax and regulatory reporting; including, monthly and annual financial statements, regular management reports, tax returns, asset / liability management reports, call reports and other regulatory reports.
• In conjunction with the Board and CEO, prepares the annual business plan, three-year strategic plan and asset / liability management strategy. Develops and presents financial forecasts and budget analysis.
• Establishes and enhances corporate information systems and reporting, especially as they relate to profitability, risk management, productivity measurements and decision-making processes.
• Ensures the safeguarding of assets by establishing appropriate legal and regulatory documentation, internal controls and procedures. Manages companywide insurance programs and policies.
• Acts as the management liaison with the audit committee, asset/liability committee, compliance committee, regulators, and third-party auditors.
• Performs hiring, training, performance evaluations, motivation and career development for direct reports.
• Contributes to the product development process. Works in conjunction with a management team to achieve companywide business plan objectives.
• Attends sub-committee meetings and as a member of the President's staff, assists in overall management of the Credit Union.
• Develops and maintains a strong knowledge of the culture, environment, and key contact individuals at Harvard University and at the Harvard affiliates to which we provide services.
• Key collaborator in helping other senior leaders to deliver above market growth, differentiate the member experience and build tighter member relationships.
Basic Qualifications
Basic Qualifications are the minimum threshold a candidate must meet in order to be considered for this role
• Bachelor's degree.
• 10+ years related experience with progressive responsibility.
• Diverse business experience; 1+ years' experience working outside of finance departments - i.e. operations., IT, lending, higher education or other portfolios at a financial institution or other highly regulated industry.
Additional Qualifications
The following qualifications are strongly preferred:
• MBA or equivalent preferred.
• Advanced planning, management, financial and communication skills.
• Thorough understanding of accounting, compliance, taxation, lending, investment and state and federal statutes, as they related to a banking institution.
• Highly motivated and able to work both, with a high degree of autonomy and as a management team member. Excellent leadership, planning, and interpersonal skills.
• Comfortable leading in a diverse and multicultural environment.
