Main Purpose:

Working closely within the New Ventures Team the Finance Controller will be required to assist in a number of finance and non-finance tasks. The key focus will be on finance functionality and candidates skill set required should thus reflect this. However, it will require adaptability and agility to work with a small expanding team to support the growth of the business. No task should be too big or too small.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities, Key Responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities

1. Maintaining accounting standards
  • Consolidation
  • Compliance with the group and statutory requirements
  • Upholding accounting reporting standards and policies

2. Measuring, managing and reporting financial and non-financial business performance including
  • KPI's
  • Business reports
  • Budgets and budget planning

3. Identifying and addressing business performance gaps such as
  • Key financial and control risks
  • Ensure mitigations are in place
  • Continuous improvement

4. AP, AR Treasury including
  • Cash management - Payments and receipts
  • Credit and debtor management
    • Credit & collections performance
    • Measuring and approving credit risk
  • Foreign Exchange

5. Managing operational corporate and project financing
  • Borrowing funds
  • Investment analysis
  • Maintaining relationships with the banks

6. Implementing internal controls
  • Safeguarding stock
  • Cost control
  • Managing CAPEX spend
  • Maintaining the fixed asset register
  • Archiving

7. Tax, audit and legal
  • Compliance
  • Tax administration & optimization
  • Certifying that company secretarial requirements are met

8. Maintain financial infrastructure and systems

9. Act as a business partner to the commercial team, supporting the development and expansion of the business

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Minimum 10+ years' experience in similar roles
  • Has worked with commercial teams and directly with customers
  • A seasoned professional with an extensive understanding of accounting, financial systems, tax legislation
  • Experience within power generation space, specifically solar, including some technical knowledge is an advantage. Preference to have worked at one of the solar developers (Lightsource, Total, Shell, Blueleaf)
  • Experience with infrastructure assets is essential
  • Must have worked in an M&A environment

  • Capacity to act as the New Ventures all-round financial expert
  • Proactive, adaptive, ambitious, analytical and not interested in bureaucracy
  • ERP system flexibility. Comfortable with a number of cloud-based and non-cloud services - SAP/Navision/SalesForce/Xero
  • Accounting and tax
  • Leadership Skills, team development mindset, and capability
  • Ability to travel
  • Fluent in English, another language is a bonus
  • Performance bias, accountability, and transparency

  • Internal - Commercial Team, NV Head, Country Finance
  • External - External auditors, attorneys, tax institutions, advisors.
