For more than 50 years, our client has operated as a fully integrated real estate services provider in the Greater Toronto Area, handling all aspects of land acquisition, development, project and construction management and property management. As the organization continues to grow, they are in need of adding to their accounting team a Controller.

In this newly created role, the Controller will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the accounting group. Responsibilities span across Construction, Property and Corporate Accounting. The Controller will be the "second in command" in the group, supporting the Director Finance & Administration in leadership, guidance and tactical functions that are required for the ongoing running of an accounting department. The Controller has direct supervisory responsibility for three (3) team members and indirect responsibility for an additional three (3) team members

Responsibilities of the Controller consist of, but are not limited to:

• Cash management activities

• Review of monthly Income Property (IPP) reporting comparisons of actual to budget & prior year

• Review of annual IPP budgets

• Co-ordinate and review monthly construction draw reporting/ schedules

• Review year-end working paper files and tax returns

• Deal with outstanding and ongoing issues with CRA

• Review of cheques prior to owners signing

• Review all HST/ GST reporting

• Co-ordination of insurance policies and payment of premiums

• Prepare tax returns for holding companies

• On-going monitoring of system requirements and needs

• Ongoing management and guidance to the accounting team

Requirements of the role:

• Completion of a post-secondary program (college or university), with a specialization in Business or Accounting

• Completion of a Canadian Accounting Designation (CA, CGA or CMA). Consideration will be given to individuals who have not completed a designation but possess a high level of expertise within the real estate accounting discipline.

• Minimum of 5-7 years of prior experience in the property management/ construction accounting field. A minimum of 3 years of this experience should have been at the supervisory or management level.

• Previous expertise with programs in the MSOffice suite is required and essential to this role.

• Past experience utilizing Newstar (REMS) will be beneficial.
