ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR - Accounting Policy Specialist

  • Salary range $128,089 to $148,134 plus superannuation and annual leave loading

The Team: NSW Treasury is responsible for the fiscal and economic policy for Australia's largest state and leads the central financial reporting role for the NSW public sector.

The Role: We are currently seeking a highly motivated qualified accountant to join the Accounting Policy Team. Your responsibilities will include:
  • Preparing and reviewing technical accounting advice
  • Researching and assessing the impact of the latest developments accounting standards
  • Developing policy and guidance to assist the sector with financial reporting
  • Preparing comment letters to standard setters
  • Advising on the preparation of the whole of government consolidated financial statements
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with Treasury and agency stakeholders

This role offers a unique blend of advising on significant and complex transactions, and developing policy responses to the latest changes in accounting standards, with extensive exposure to finance executives across the NSW public sector.

Key Skills and Experience
  • CA or CPA or equivalent
  • Excellent knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards
  • Experience providing accounting standards advice for complex transactions
  • Ability to research, analyse and communicate complex financial reporting matters
  • Ability to manage competing priorities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex accounting concepts in concise plain English
  • Knowledge and understanding of the NSW Public Sector (desirable)
  • Experience and knowledge of the interaction between accounting standards, Government Finance Statistics and financial reporting requirements (desirable)
