The role will involve project based assignments at our London offices working within the Monitoring Trustee Team

Clients

The Monitoring Trustee team is a small, dynamic consultancy team providing companies and regulatory authorities with advice on monitoring the implementation of competition remedies in merger, anti-trust and state aid cases. The role will involve work with a multinational, blue chip client base. Mazars is regularly appointed as Monitoring Trustee in relation to the world's largest M&A transactions and is a well renowned market leader in the field.

Job Role

The Manager / Senior Manager would be a qualified lawyer with at least 2 years / 2 years + PQE, ideally with experience from a leading law firm specialising in competition law or a competition authority. The candidate would be expected to participate in the active growth of our monitoring trustee practice by contributing to various client engagement teams, working with a diverse range of high profile businesses to deliver professional services, and leading business development activities on key accounts.

As a Manager / Senior Manager, the candidate would be required to:

• Monitor compliance of parties with commitments offered to competition authorities in the UK, EU and globally (in particular North and South America, Asia)

• Manage smaller monitoring projects and work streams of larger monitoring assignments (e.g., monitoring of divestiture processes, or hold-separate/ring-fencing obligations)

• Assess potential purchasers of divestment businesses (e.g., review and analysis of independence, and transaction agreements in accordance with Commitments)

• Develop methodologies for and project manage the monitoring of behavioural commitments (e.g., access commitments, price commitments etc.)

• Identify business development opportunities and support in preparing for and attending pitches

• Manage administrative responsibilities such as billing and client engagement processes

• Assist in/lead the development of training, engagement procedures and methodologies

• Mentor, coach and develop more junior staff

Person Specification

• Experience in the competition law and regulatory sectors, ideally in advisory, compliance or regulatory roles is essential

• Strong analytical skills are required, including the ability to interpret data with a critical eye, generate insights and construct solutions

• Excellent English language drafting skills and English communication skills

• Experience of being in a client-facing role with an ability to build and develop relationships with all key stakeholders

• A working knowledge of another European language would be advantageous

• Strong IT skills (Excel, PowerPoint and Word)
