Innovation and Technology Solutions
Innovation and Technology Solutions (ITS), delivering outstanding IT and enabling excellence in its use, provides the supporting and enabling IT for the whole University across three campuses, from underlying network infrastructure to digital skills training for staff and students. Our vision is of a University where students and staff are actively supported in their endeavours to excel in creating, managing, communicating, and exploiting information by using information technology facilities and services that are user-centred, flexible, accessible, and resilient.

A section of over 140 staff, ITS consists of a set of core operational service groups including Commercial Applications, Infrastructure, Software Development, Strategic Projects and Improvement and Technology for People and Place.

The Information Assurance Team deals with all aspects of compliance with information law, including the Data Protection Act 2018 and the Freedom of Information Act 2020, working closely with the Cyber Security Manager. The team is part of the office of the Deputy Director of Innovation and Technology.

Duties of the Role
The Information Assurance Officer will provide frontline advice and guidance on data protection issues to colleagues across the University, ensuring that the University complies with GDPR in its every day practice. They will provide advice both on a service-desk basis, but also on a proactive basis, through the website, the Information Champions Network and other appropriate channels, including one to one and group training. They will ensure that relevant policy is maintained and up to date.

A full list of duties and responsibilities can be found within the job pack.

Qualifications and Skills required
Applicants are required to hold a degree or equivalent level of qualification or experience and possess evidence of having undertaken training in data protection matters, demonstrating that you know your DPA2018 from your GDPR, and your PECR from your FOIA.

Experienced in delivering good quality data protection advice to a wide range of people, you will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to explain complex issues in a straightforward way with tact and diplomacy. You can be firm about the rules, but you also know how to take a supportive, customer-focussed, problem-solving approach so that compliance is always an asset rather than a barrier.

You will have experience of delivering engaging training sessions to groups and individuals on matters relating to data protection, and the ability to write clear and concise guidance and support materials.

Calm under pressure, you are used to balancing commitments and meeting short deadlines. Able to work effectively alone, you are also happy to be a key
part of a small and supportive team.

Remote and/ or flexible working will be considered.

Appointment to this post will be on a fixed-term, full-time basis until 31 March 2021.
