High profile position within a large Plc based in Bristol. The role will focus on revenue reporting and key activities around IFRS 15 and IFRS 16.

Client Details

Our client is a leading business based in Bristol. They are undergoing some exciting changes and looking to strengthen their finance team for the future. The Central Finance team is responsible for reporting and planning for the brand, for both P&L and cash. Their role is to make sure key reporting and planning processes function well, numbers are analysed and challenged, and that figures are well understood by senior management. They also have a key role in maintaining controls and liaising with external audit, in driving transformational changes to improve the finance function, and in maintaining billing accuracy.

Description

Key Accountabilities:

Ensuring that there is resilience and shared understanding around the key revenue models and governance.

Act as a subject matter expert on IFRS15 & 16:

  • Support commercial finance teams in assessing the impact of application of the relevant standards to new propositions
  • Support the financial accounting team in development of accounting policies, which are impacted or driven by IFRS15 & IFRS16
  • Develop and manage revenue accounting models as required for application of new accounting policies or propositions
  • Provide ad-hoc training to new joiners and non-finance stakeholders
  • Support project teams in assessing accounting impacts on system and process requirements

Own IFRS15 & IFRS16 Month end process:

  • Run system driven data reports and perform data cleansing for input to revenue accounting models
  • Business partner with Commercial Finance teams to obtain various data inputs to revenue accounting models
  • Maintain live reference tables on an on-going basis for product/price changes
  • Populate and run revenue accounting models and supporting data sheets
  • Run variance analysis to explain commercial drivers behind forecast variance
  • Lead IFRS15 & IFRS16 month end review
  • Issue average tenure (contract life) updates to stakeholders in Commercial Finance team
  • Issue IFRS revenue overlays to stakeholders in Commercial Finance team and aid in explanation of variances
  • Prepare IFRS revenue overlay journals for posting
  • Own IFRS15 & IFRS16 controls process

Profile

Key requirements:

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, CIMA, ACCA)
  • Strong technical knowledge around IFRS15 & 16, and ability to apply this knowledge in a commercial environment
  • Advanced financial modelling skills - ability to build/manipulate detailed models to arrive at appropriate outputs/metrics to support decision making
  • Communication skills - translating complex financial outcomes to financial and non-financial stakeholders through both oral and written communication. Ability to tailor message to the relevant audience, distilling key messages without losing the appropriate level of detail
  • Ability to quickly establish credibility and respect and build strong working relationships
  • Demonstrable professionalism with a proven ability to operate in a complex, fast paced matrixed business environment
  • Able to identify issues, get to root causes through the use of financial analysis and insight to diagnose and solve problems
  • Able to deal with ambiguity, identify resources to implement and determine pragmatic solutions
  • Bias towards bold and confident thinking, challenging the status quo where appropriate
  • Patience and experience of navigating large, complex organisational structures
