Job Description

Overview

1. General Definition

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Chief Accountant (CA) is responsible for all areas relating to financial reporting. The CA is responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. The CA supervises the accounting staff and is responsible for managing the team, ensuring work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner. The role addresses tight deadlines as well as other accounting activities including, but not limited to, general ledger preparation, financial reporting, year-end audit preparation and the support of budget and forecast activities.

2. Primary Duties and Responsibilities
a. Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial and general ledger structure.
b. Ensure an accurate and timely monthly and year end close.
c. Ensure the timely reporting of all monthly financial information.
d. Support budget and forecasting activities
e. Develop and implement policies and procedures with emphasis on internal controls.
f. Collaborate with other department managers to support overall department goals and objectives.
g. Monitor and analyse department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
h. Advise staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions.
i. Respond to inquiries made by the CEO, CFO, GM, Directors and other managers regarding financial results, special reporting requests and the like.
j. Assist in the development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department.
k. Provide analysis and advice to the CFO on the potential implications of proposed changes in accounting rules/policies and legislation/government rules.
l. Provide training to new and existing staff as needed.
m. Support with special projects and workflow process improvements.

3. Financial Reporting
a. Make recommendations on how the organisation should adopt best practice in terms of financial reporting (where it is not already doing so).
b. Assist the CFO with all statutory reporting.
c. Assist in the production of the Annual Report and Accounts and the supporting evidence and reconciliations, working with the CFO and others to ensure that the organisation receives a clean audit report.
d. Work with Directors and Heads of Department across the whole organisation to ensure risks associated with the production of the annual report and accounts are identified and managed accordingly.
e. Manage the short and medium term cash forecasting process and reporting the cash requirements of the organization through a 13 week rolling cash flow analysis.
f. Production of a set of management accounts, including balance sheet, on a monthly basis, using this information to assist the CFO with the production of monthly management accounts.
g. Produce, as required, any ad hoc reports require by the CFO.
h. Production of departmental reports and departmental contribution analysis reports enabling departments to manage and monitor performance and work within budgets.

4. Cash Management
a. Oversee weekly cash management.
b. Supervise Accounts Receivable management and provide guidance relating to the collection process.
c. Daily bank reconciliation and bank position reports.

6. Work Environment
a. You'll work constructively and proactively with a variety of teams and departments within The Tradewinds Logistics Ltd along with external organisations. You will be expected to seek opportunities to work collaboratively with other teams and to model respectful behaviours
b. Although this is an office based job you may be required to stay late at short notice. The role may require limited travel both nationally and internationally.
