Summary

To ensure there is accurate and timely financial accounting, reporting and analysis for the region. To prepare accurate and timely financial reporting (including key performance information) for management and Corporate Finance. Oversee general accounting, revenue and receivables, tax and treasury functions of the region through coordination with EMEA CFO. To ensure an effective financial control framework is in place.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Management of day-to-day general accounting of the region.
  • Interpret and apply local country GAAP and other authoritative accounting standards as required by EMEA region including IFRS
  • Oversee month-end, quarter-end and year-end close process of the region to ensure accuracy and integrity of internal and external financial reporting
  • Maintain the regional financial close schedule and ensure all accounting team members adhere to the schedule.
  • Assist in review of contracts, perform preliminary accounting consideration review, support the development of relevant accounting research and coordinate the application of accounting treatment on these transactions
  • Resolve complex technical accounting issues timely and effectively
  • Oversee accurate and timely preparation of account reconciliations and other support as required by SOX and corporate policies
  • Administer US GAAP to statutory account reconciliations
  • Assist with the preparation and review of financial statements including footnote disclosure of accounting transactions
  • Manage the external audit partners in region.
  • Oversee regional accounts receivable function to ensure the accurate and timely application of customer and patient payments and support the management of third party payers as needed
  • Support Treasury initiatives through foreign currency translation and accounting and helping to administer local banking relationships as needed
  • Support Tax initiatives to ensure accurate and timely remittances and return preparation as well as monitoring compliance with transfer pricing agreements
  • Initiate, review, and implement process improvements to the general accounting and related areas
  • Participate as a key member in the implementation of any new systems or refinements to existing systems and serve as a champion for the regional accounting team
  • Assist with accounting integration of mergers and acquisitions
  • Build a strong functional team in line with significant growth plans in the region.
  • Talent management and development of the controllership function in the region.
  • Maintain internal control environment to ensure compliance with SOX and corporate policies and procedures for general accounting operations
  • Participate in or lead ad hoc projects, as required.

  • Ability to demonstrate a high degree of mental effort - nearly all duties performed under tight deadlines and under the scrutiny of corporate stakeholders
  • Ability to plan, manage, and complete regular and special projects associated with general ledger and account reconciliation responsibilities. Must be able to analyze accounting processes, procedures and controls and suggest and implement improvements.
  • Excellent communication skills in dealing with internal contacts and outside third parties. Must have a customer service attitude that builds and enhances positive relationships with the organization and payers.


Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university in accounting or related field; 15 years experience in accounting roles with increasing responsibilities, preferably in a medical device environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • CPA preferred
  • SOX experience required
  • Oracle EBS/Oracle Fusion or other major ERP system experience required.
  • Public company experience preferred.
  • Experience building high performing international accounting teams.
  • Experience in system implementation and acquisition support.
  • Strong technical background around US GAAP
  • Ability to work effectively with senior level executives and external advisors
  • Extensive project management skills
  • Strong PC skills--proficiency in Excel required
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proven ability and desire to work in a team environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
