Our client is a prestigious specialist litigation practice comprising of world-renowned practitioners, both barristers and solicitors, from various dispute-resolution backgrounds. Due to continued expansion they are now looking to recruit a Financial Controller / Accountant / Finance Manager with legal sector experience to be responsible for all statutory and management reporting, all tax accounting for the Firm, as well as Accounts Payable and Cashiering.

This is a great opportunity to be in a hands-on role as part of a small, friendly finance team. Full knowledge of SRA accounts rules and their application would be fundamental to the role, as you would act as the SAR expert for the Firm and key contact for auditors. This role holds the position of Assistant COFA and will also provide cover for the Financial Director as required.

Key tasks include:

* Preparation of the annual statutory accounts and monthly management accounts (including commentary), as well as management of audit processes.

* Liaising with the Firm's tax advisors to ensure that the annual returns are properly prepared and providing numbers to the members as required.

* Responsible for the Firm's payroll (via the payroll bureau) and payments to the Firm's pension provider.

* Responsible for preparation of the quarterly VAT returns, regular cashflow reporting and forecasting. Ensuring that all daily, weekly and monthly reconciliations are performed.

* Responsible for all aspects of Client Money accounting. Keeping up to date with all SAR developments and being the key contact for the SAR annual audit.

* Utilise and maintain the Firm's accounting systems for all payments and receipts, including staff expenses and VAT receipts.

* Management of the AP & Cashiering Assistant (includes on-going coaching and support, appraisal review meetings etc.)

* Involvement in projects as and when required.

Key Skills & Experience

* Senior accounting experience gained in a legal practice.

* Strong UK GAAP knowledge and experience of LLP statutory accounts preparation and consolidation is essential.

* Strong systems experience with Practice Management Systems (such as Aderant) is recommended.

* A high level of accuracy and attention to detail in a fast-paced corporate office environment.

* Excellent communication skills, initiative, and a drive to deliver excellence.

* Hard working, exceptionally organised and an ability to prioritise and meet tight deadlines.

* Ability to work independently and maintain a positive outlook even when placed under pressure.
